Abstract: A broadcast receiving apparatus and a broadcast receiving method in which a tuned broadcast and previous broadcasts of broadcast channels not tuned are provided on a single broadcast screen, are provided. The broadcast receiving apparatus stores separately, for each regular time interval, previous broadcasts provided on tunable broadcast channels, and combines a broadcast currently provided on a broadcast channel, selected by a user to be tuned, with at least one of the previously stored broadcasts to generate a single broadcast screen. Therefore, various broadcast screens may be simultaneously displayed on a single screen without increasing the number of tuners, and thus a user may view various broadcasts at the same time.

An amount of a previous broadcast corresponding to a predetermined period of time, which is required for providing the previous broadcast of a point in time previous to the current point in time, is selectively and temporarily stored in one of an internal storage medium and an external storage medium connected to an interface. The video recording method includes generating a predetermined number of Group of Pictures (GOP) into a single file, and storing the generated file, and storing the name of the file. Accordingly, use of storage space due to index file is avoided, and failure of high-speed playback due to a damaged index file is prevented.
