Patent number: 9271269Abstract: A method for assigning slot reservations to subscriber radios in a TDMA communications system, where data is arranged into a series of superframes, includes an inbound signaling protocol having a plurality of inbound transmission slots. An outbound signaling protocol includes an inbound reservation scheduling slot, which includes a plurality of subscriber access code fields. Each subscriber access code field corresponds to at least one of the inbound transmission slots. Each subscriber access code field may store a subscriber access code associated with a subscriber radio. The inbound reservation scheduling message includes a subscriber access code in at least one of the subscriber access code fields. As such, the subscriber radio associated with the subscriber access code may transmit data during the inbound transmission slot corresponding to the subscriber access code in which the subscriber access code field is stored.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2012Date of Patent: February 23, 2016Assignee: MOTOROLA SOLUTIONS, INC.Inventors: Sanjay G. Patent number: 9225509Abstract: A method and apparatus for synchronizing a communication device in a communication system includes receiving a transmission from another communication device. The transmission comprises a plurality of time slots and a plurality of signaling fields inserted between the time slots. The plurality of signaling fields include a set of signaling fields of a first information type and a set of signaling fields of a second information type. The method includes detecting at least two consecutive signaling fields of the first information type, recovering a received pattern contained in a nth signaling field of the second information type, predicting patterns corresponding to (n+1)th to (k?1)th signaling fields of the second information type, comparing previously predicted patterns corresponding to the (n)th signaling field with the recovered pattern in the received (n)th signaling field and achieving synchronization when at least ‘m’ matches are obtained between the predicted and the recovered patterns.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 2010Date of Patent: December 29, 2015Assignee: MOTOROLA SOLUTIONS, INC.Inventors: Harish Natarahjan, Sanjay G. Patent number: 9107215Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods of managing short addresses in a wireless communication system include receiving reservation requests on a random access channel from subscriber units at a radio frequency (RF) site such that the reservation requests includes a minimum number of requested time slots for data transmission between a subscriber unit and the RF site, and a subscriber long address. Further, for each of the reservation requests, the RF site selects a subscriber short address for the respective subscriber unit as well as transmitting the selected subscriber short address to the respective subscriber unit on a RF site channel. In addition, the RF site determines a short address transmission schedule for the subscriber units as well as transmitting a schedule message to the subscriber units on a schedule channel such that the schedule provides slot assignments for data transmissions by subscriber units according to their assigned short addresses.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 2013Date of Patent: August 11, 2015Assignee: MOTOROLA SOLUTIONS, INC.Inventors: Robert D. Logalbo, Sanjay G Desai, Leslie G Gustafson

Patent number: 8281216Abstract: An assignment scheme exploits the Media Access Control (MAC) layer protocol features under various MAC layer call scenarios. In one embodiment, the Hamming distance between pairs of critical Data Units are assigned to codewords with a minimum distance of dmin2=8 bits, thereby increasing the hard decision error correcting capability from 1 bit to 3 bits when deciding between these pairs of Data Units. The method for assigning data unit identification (DUID) codes by a radio operating within a wireless communication system includes determining by the radio whether an expected burst is a 4 Voice Burst with Encryption Synchronization Signaling (4V); when the expected burst is 4V, decoding the DUID within the received burst using an increased minimum distance; and when the expected burst is not 4V, decoding the DUID within the received burst using a minimum distance.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2009Date of Patent: October 2, 2012Assignee: Motorola Solutions, Inc.Inventors: Sanjay G. Patent number: 7808956Abstract: The power of a signal transmitted from a mobile terminal of a half-duplex TDMA communication system to a base station is controlled by collecting data relating to bit errors in the transmitted signal received on an inbound channel, generating a time-varying statistic of the data. If the time varying statistic indicates that the power should be adjusted, a power control command is embedded in one or more time slots of an outbound channel to the mobile terminal to change the power of the signal. The data may be the bit error rate (BER) reported by a forward error correction decoder and/or returned signal strength information (RSSI). The time varying statistic may be the moving average and standard deviation of the data.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2006Date of Patent: October 5, 2010Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Michael C. Petrie, Sanjay G. Desai, Gary P. Hunsberger, John De Sabatino

Patent number: 7564830Abstract: A system and method for effectively and reliably terminating a voice call in any burst within a multi-burst superframe. A transmitting unit generates a termination burst upon detecting a dekey event. The termination burst includes a data synchronization pattern, a slot type field indicating an end of a call, and an information field surrounding the data synchronization pattern and the slot type field. The information field is encoded from a predetermined voice encoder frame unique to the termination burst. Once all buffered voice information is transmitted, the termination burst is transmitted prior to the end of the multi-burst superframe. A base station or other receiving unit monitors the incoming signal. Upon detecting the data synchronization pattern, the receiving unit decodes the slot type field and the information field.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 2006Date of Patent: July 21, 2009Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Sanjay G.
