  • Publication number: 20230380444
Abstract: The present disclosure provides systems and methods for the recovery of protein species from wet mill grain process streams. Systems and methods of the present disclosure may be integrated with a wet mill grain process to separate out protein species that may limit efficiency of the grain process and produce one or more product streams comprising these separated protein species. A feed stream may be fractionated by at least two membranes into retentate and permeate streams. Removing larger proteins through the membrane fractionation may allow previously soluble prolamin products in the permeate stream(s) to precipitate. The recovered protein species may include prolamin, such as zein from a corn grain feed.

  • Patent number: 6627087
Abstract: A method of removing lead from water comprising a) adjusting the pH of the water to about 7 to about 9; and b) adding to the water an effective amount of a water soluble, high molecular weight cationic dispersion polymer composed of i) (meth)acrylamide; ii) a hydrophilic cationic monomer of formula  wherein A1 is O or NH; B1 is C2-C4 alkylene or hydroxypropylene; R1 is H or CH3, R2 and R4 are independently C1-C2 alkyl; R3 is H or C1-C2 alkyl; and X1 is an anionic counterion; and iii) a hydrophobic cationic monomer of formula  wherein A2 is O or NH; B2 is C2-C4 alkylene or hydroxypropylene; R5 is H or CH3; R6 and R8 are C1-C2 alkyl; R7 is C6-C20 alkyl or arylalkyl; and X2 is an anionic counterion; c) optionally adding a water soluble ethylene dichloride ammonia polymer to form a mixture of water and lead-containing flocculated solids; and d) separating the lead-containing flocculated solids from the water.

  • Patent number: 4715962
Abstract: A method of removing impurities from water which comprises treating these impurity-containing waters with a few parts per million of a water-soluble polymer containing a major portion of Diallyldimethyl Ammonium Chloride and ether.A. from 5 to 25 mole percent of either acrylic acid or methacrylic acid, or,B. from 5 to 25 mole percent of either acrylic acid or methacrylic acid and from 1-10 percent of a hydroxy C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkyl acrylate or methacrylate:which polymer is characterized as having an intrinsic viscosity of at least 0.5.

  • Patent number: 4587023
Abstract: A perturbed feedback control system for a process. Inputs to the process include a feed stream and a manipulated variable. The manipulated variable is controlled by a feedback controller. Measurements of a parameter measured "downstream" of the process are taken periodically and fed back to the controller. The feedback controller generates a control response on the basis of a comparison of the two most recent values of the downstream parameter. The comparison is made by calculating a perturbed set point which includes the values of the downstream parameter taken at the two most recent sampling periods. In a specific embodiment, the perturbed set point also includes measurements of the most recent and preceding values of the manipulated variable. A control response is applied to the manipulated variable by the feedback controller based on the value of the perturbed set point. The control system has been applied to optimize the feed rate of chemicals for sludge dewatering on a twin belt filter press.

  • Patent number: 4426877
Abstract: A method for recovering oil from a waste oil emulsion or sludge where the waste oil emulsion is heated and chemicals are added to obtain oil-water resolution, which includes conducting bottle and beaker tests on waste oil emulsion samples to obtain a trend which depicts a drop in viscosity as a function of the type and dosage of chemical added, and apparatus for utilizing the waste oil emulsion viscosity trend in the operation of a waste oil cooker or recovery vessel to add type and dosage of chemicals.

  • Patent number: 4383927
Abstract: A process is provided for enhancing oil recovery from an oily sludge containing a solid phase, an oil phase and a water phase by adding a positively charged latex flocculant to such sludge and immediately thereafter adding a chemical emulsion breaker which is negatively charged or nonionic, while controlling the proportions of said flocculant and said emulsion breaker to cause the entrapped oil phase to detach from the floc surface of the adsorptive solids and go into the water phase, and mechanically separating the oil from the solids and water.
