  • Patent number: 8010497
Abstract: A two copy versioning scheme is proposed. The scheme provides efficient implementation for a high read load database and eliminates read dependencies. The versioning scheme provides efficient implementation for transactions executing under ANSI READ COMMITTED isolation, and is extensible to serializable isolation. The two-copy versioning scheme is garbage free meaning that all versions of data records are used during execution and is adapted to index scanning operations. A “deferred delete” scheme allows read transactions to complete data deallocation operations. Statements that require “snapshots” are efficiently supported.

  • Patent number: 8010818
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for saving power in a device coupled to a bus, the device is placed to operate in a power saving mode by powering off a selective portion of the device including a device clock. If data communication over the bus is addressed to the device then the selective portion of the device, including the device clock, is triggered to return to a power on state from the power off state. The data communication is stored in shadow registers using a bus clock while the device clock is transitioning to the power on state. The data communication stored in the shadow registers is transferred to a register map under the control of the device clock operating in the power on state. Upon completion of the transfer of the data communication to the register map, the device is returned to operate in the power saving mode.

  • Patent number: 8005802
Abstract: Described herein are various approaches that allow rules to be used to specify actions, that alleviate the complexity and burden of developing and maintaining rules in a rules-based messaging system, and that provide more efficient ways of evaluating rules. The approaches allow rules to specify user-defined transformation functions for transforming messages, to specify when and how to perform row migration, and to specify other types of actions. Rules are grouped into rule sets. Several types of rule sets, referred to as positive and negative rule sets, allow users to use rules that are less complex to develop and maintain. Rule sets are evaluated more efficiently by attempting to evaluate the rule set with less information than is needed to evaluate all the rules in the rule set. Also, the results of rules evaluations that are based on a set of values are cached for later retrieval.
