  • Patent number: 11344224
Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring pulmonary edema and/or pulmonary congestion are based on changes in impedance parameters that are indicative of lung impedance of a patient. Early detection of changes in the status of a patient pertaining to pulmonary edema and/or pulmonary congestion may be especially beneficial for heart failure patients. Quantification is based on differentials, e.g. within a span of 24 hours, of one or more lung impedance parameters.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 9, 2013
Date of Patent: May 31, 2022
    Assignee: KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS N.V.
Inventors: Michael Thomas Kane, Sankarasubrahmani Uday Shankar
  • Patent number: 10137266
Abstract: A method of detecting dyssynchrony between a patient and a pressure support system includes receiving patient flow data relating to a flow of gas provided to the patient by the pressure support system, receiving an I/E state signal representing a respiratory phase of the patient as determined by the pressure support system, and analyzing the patient flow data and the I/E state signal and declaring a dyssynchrony for a breath based on at least one of the patient flow data and the I/E state signal. The method includes determining whether at least one of a number of predetermined criterion is satisfied based on at least one of the patient flow data and the I/E state signal, and declaring the dyssynchrony for the breath if it is determined that at least one of the number of predetermined criterion is satisfied.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 22, 2010
Date of Patent: November 27, 2018
    Assignee: KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS N.V.
Inventors: Benjamin Irwin Shelly, Sankarasubrahmani Uday Shankar, Michael T. Kane, Gregory Delano Matthews, Heather Dawn Ressler
  • Patent number: 9412343
Abstract: A musical instrument includes a resonating pipe having a first slot defined along a length of a longitudinal axis of the resonating pipe and a sliding rod that slides along a length of the first slot and closes the first slot such that the sliding rod selectively covers and provides an air seal to the first slot, such that a pitch of sound produced varies according to a length of closure of the first slot. A mouthpiece is coupled to the resonating pipe to enable the player to create a resonating column of air in the resonating pipe and control the pitch of the instrument by controlling the coverage of the sliding rod over the first slot. A composite musical instrument may include the wind instrument combined with a stringed instrument.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 29, 2014
Date of Patent: August 9, 2016
