  • Publication number: 20150020597
Abstract: An accelerated powder segregation testing apparatus and method are disclosed. The apparatus consists of an angularly oriented ramp 10 mounted on a vibration device 22. The powder to be tested is fed into an origin portion 14 of the ramp 10, and when the vibrator 22 is activated, the powder moves along the ramp 10. As the powder exits after the test, unit-dose powder samples are collected, compacted and analyzed for differential in content uniformity. By comparing the results from several formulations, the formulation that is most resistant to segregation can be selected for production.

  • Patent number: 8827545
Abstract: A tumbling container is mounted for rotation with a curved screen fixedly mounted within the tumbling container. A multiple vane paddle is mounted to a shaft that is rotatably mounted to the tumbling container. The paddle vanes are formed with angular edges. As the tumbler rotates and the paddle rotates, powder is repeatedly dropped onto the screen to be sifted with the aid of the paddle. Rotating the tumbler further drops unsifted portions of the powder from the screen to mix with additional powder in the tumbler body. Thus, sifting and blending of powders is accomplished in one single operation. The invention utilizes an apparatus having a multiple section screen and a multiple section paddle to enable assembly through the openings in the tumbling container. The screen of a second embodiment has a cowl adjacent to each screen opening to optimize powder lump disintegration.

  • Publication number: 20140079729
Abstract: Shilajit in a standardized composition produces a significant improvement in several cardiovascular parameters including RI, AIx and SEVR. Further, significant reductions in malondialdehyde and increases in nitric oxide levels are provided suggesting improvement in endothelial function. Shilajit may be used to reduce inflammatory biomarker HsCRP levels significantly compared to baseline and placebo. Additionally, Shilajit can provide significant improvement in lipid parameters including total cholesterol, LDL-C, and HbA1c (%) Inhibition of platelet aggregation using Shilajit performed using ADP as aggregant also provides highly significant inhibition of platelet aggregation compared to baseline and with placebo. Thus, Shilajit may be used for improvement of endothelial function and to help reduce cardiovascular morbidity, particularly for the diabetic individual.

  • Publication number: 20130266676
Abstract: An enriched hydrolyzable tannoid blend derived from Terminalia chebula is provided. An optimized aqueous extraction method for Terminalia chebula is provided to maximize the levels of bioactive hydrolyzable tannoids including chebulagic acid, chebulinic acid and other low molecular weight hydrolyzable tannoids. The method produces a Terminalia chebula extract containing a hydrolyzable tannoid blend as an amorphous dry powder. In an embodiment, the Terminalia chebula extract contains 8-25% by weight chebulagic acid, 15-30% chebulinic acid, and 5-45% low molecular weight hydrolyzable tannoids. Potential uses of said enriched hydrolyzable tannoid compositions for antioxidant activity in a human subject are described herein.

  • Patent number: 8235582
Abstract: A tumbler is mounted for rotation around a trunnion with a screen fixedly mounted to a portion of the trunnion residing within the tumbler. A multiple blade paddle is mounted to a shaft that is rotatably supported through the trunnion. The paddle blades are formed with angular edges. As the tumbler rotates and the paddle rotates, powder is repeatedly dropped onto the screen to be sifted with the aid of the paddle. • Patent number: 7472614
Abstract: A sampler for acquiring a sample of blended powder from diverse locations within a bin is described. The sampler has a cylinder with a hollow chamber formed therein and is connected to a handle for rotation within a housing tube. Rotation causes the chamber to move into or out of alignment with an aperture in the housing tube. When the sampler is inserted axially into a batch of blended powder, the cylinder is rotated to align the chamber with the aperture in the housing cap, allowing powder to enter the chamber. The cylinder is rotated back to close the chamber, and the sampler is withdrawn from the powder batch. The cap is removed from the housing and the cylinder is removed from the housing to transfer the sample of powder for analysis.

  • Patent number: 7204164
Abstract: The powder analytical apparatus of the invention includes a hopper that is connected to a controllable agitator by a separable link. The hopper has an exit port at its lower end that is at an acute angle to the axis of the hopper. A planar gate is mounted parallel to the exit port of the hopper and is movable incrementally to allow powder to flow out of the hopper into a bin residing on a scale. The controllable agitator is a vibrator device capable of variation of frequency and amplitude. Control of the vibrator, the gate position and input from the scale are by means of a PLC. In a second embodiment, the exit port is formed perpendicular to the axis of the hopper and the gate is conical to emulate the angular flow pattern of the first embodiment.

  • Publication number: 20030205098
Abstract: The present invention provides apparatus and method for sample acquisition from an active flow of mixed powder material being transferred from a blender. The apparatus includes a sleeve that is assembled co-axially to a discharge port of the blender and a number of sample collectors which each include a shaft with sample cavities and a tube that is rotatable around the shaft for exposing and covering the cavities. The sample collectors are alternately inserted through a bearing collar into the sleeve. The tubes are plugged at their respective outer ends to prevent accidental removal from the sleeve. The method includes inserting and opening each of the sample collectors in turn and removing the collected samples for analysis.
