Publication number: 20240137395Abstract: When operational, a first node of an IMS network handles a registration of a UE on the IMS network, and receives a first request to reregister the UE with the IMS network. The first node creates a registration confirmation, and sends the registration confirmation to the UE. The second node of the IMS network receives a second request to reregister the UE with the IMS network and an indication that the first node has failed. The second node reduces IMS network congestion by avoiding reporting to the UE that the first node has failed, and by sending a message confirming reregistration. Upon receiving the message, the UE considers the registration valid for a predetermined period. Upon expiration of the predetermined period the UE sends a request to reregister. The message prevents the UE from congesting the IMS network.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 18, 2022Publication date: April 25, 2024Inventors: Nassereddine Sabeur, Saqib Badar, Joel Arends, Khurram Ahmad Mirza, Marc Proctor

Patent number: 11910474Abstract: In a multi-HSS domain, in which some HSSs support a custom route advance (RA) logic and others do not, a P-CSCF may receive a request for service from a UE associated with one of the HSSs, and send the request to an assigned S-CSCF (S-CSCF1) associated with the UE. Upon failing to receive a response from the S-CSCF1 within a preset time period, the P-CSCF may send the request to the I-CSCF. Based on information included in the request, the I-CSCF may discover an address of a second S-CSCF (S-CSCF2) from the associated HSS and sending the request to the S-CSCF2 based on the discovered address of the S-CSCF2, or send a message indicative of the requested service being unavailable to the P-CSCF.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 2021Date of Patent: February 20, 2024Assignee: T-Mobile USA, Inc.Inventors: Saqib Badar, Shujaur Mufti

Publication number: 20230379686Abstract: Methods, media, and systems are provided for continuity of a telecommunications network service in an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) layer providing telecommunications network services to devices located on an island. The IMS layer may comprise a Call Session Control Function (CSCF) or an application server. A diameter routing agent (DRA) or other diameter traffic controller associated with the CSCF transmits a request to a Home Subscriber Server (HSS) (e.g., that is located on a mainland). The CSCF, application server, or both have a skip HSS flag comprising instructions for connectivity loss with the HSS. Based on determining a loss of connectivity with the HSS, a Serving CSCF associated with the island is automatically selected or the Serving CSCF automatically transmits a response indicating the request was successful registering a user device, such that the user device continues working remotely on the island.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 20, 2022Publication date: November 23, 2023Inventors: Harikishore Allu Balan, Saqib Badar, Shujaur Rehman Mufti

Patent number: 11621860Abstract: Techniques for allowing access based online charging in cases of multiple user agents (multi-UAs) scenarios where the instances are registered to different telephony application servers (TASs) are discussed herein. For example, a user device may support a native number and multiple virtual numbers linked via a user account. When servicing a call, the user device may determine a served number to service the call from. If the served number is not the native number but a virtual number, the native-line server may handle the call session, but the online charging session will be handled by the virtual-line server. The native-line server may use session initiation protocol (SIP) information to send updated information for charging parameters to the virtual-line server, including network access transfer for accuracy in online charging logic.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2021Date of Patent: April 4, 2023Assignee: T-Mobile USA, Inc.Inventor: Saqib Badar

Publication number: 20230088323Abstract: A network operator can partition network elements, including elements of an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) or Policy and Charging Rules Functions (PCRFs) into groups reserved for specific types of subscribers. When a user equipment (UE) registers with an IMS, elements of the IMS can contact a Home Subscriber Server (HSS) to determine a subscriber type associated with the UE. Based on the UE's subscriber type, an IMS element can determine an application server or other IMS element to contact about the UE based on identifying application servers or IMS elements that are also associated with the same subscriber type as the UE. Similarly, an IMS element can determine a PCRF to contact about the UE based on identifying a PCRF that is associated with the same subscriber type as the UE.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 28, 2022Publication date: March 23, 2023Inventors: Mohammed Al-Mehdar, Saqib Badar, Shujaur Mufti, Khurram Ahmad Mirza, Kalyan Kalepu
