  • Publication number: 20020018512
Abstract: A barrier for halogenated aromatic compounds is provided, especially fluorinated hydrocarbon films useful for containing precise quantities of halogenated aromatic compounds used as thermally sensitive materials in reversible chemical thermometers. A new shape of chemical thermometer is also disclosed.
    Type: Application
    Filed: July 1, 1998
    Publication date: February 14, 2002
    Applicant: 3M Innovative Properties Company
Inventors: RODNEY K. HEHENBERGER, SARA L. MEGCHELSEN, RICHARD L. JACOBSON
  • Patent number: 5879493
Abstract: A reinforced viral resistant seam for an article of protective apparel constructed by arranging first and second thermoplastic webs and at least one reinforcing strip thermally bondable with the webs along a common seam edge. An ultrasonic welding wheel having a cutting edge immediately adjacent to the welding surface is used to form a viral resistant, comfortable, high tensile strength seam suitable for articles of protective apparel.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 2, 1997
Date of Patent: March 9, 1999
Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company
Inventors: Mark V. Johnson, Nancy C. Rauschenberg, Sara L. Megchelsen
  • Patent number: 5865919
Abstract: A viral barrier composite of a thermoplastic film thermally bonded on at least one side thereof to a breathable thermoplastic web, and method for making the same. The viral barrier composite has viral barrier properties, a moisture vapor transmission rate of at least 700 g/m.sup.2 /24 hours and a bond strength between the thermoplastic film and breathable thermoplastic web of at least 0.07N/cm. The viral barrier composite is formed by calendering an assembly comprising a thermoplastic film and a breathable thermoplastic web between a smooth roll and a pattern roll. The viral barrier composite may be used for constructing articles of protective apparel.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 29, 1997
Date of Patent: February 2, 1999
Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Co.
