The prebiotic composition is effective for use in methods of preventing and/or treating a gastrointestinal (GI) condition in an animal, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease(s) (IBD), Crohn's disease, and ulcerative colitis (UC). A foodstuff or beverage, a medical food, a nutritional composition, and a kit presentation, each including the prebiotic composition, and each suitable for use in methods of reducing or suppressing inflammation in an animalian tract, are also disclosed. A method of using the prebiotic composition to prevent and/or treat a GI condition in an animal is further disclosed. The method comprises administering the prebiotic composition to the animal.
