  • Publication number: 20230408104
Abstract: A cooking appliance and a method for operating a cooking appliance are provided. The cooking appliance includes a heating element configured to provide heat to a cooking chamber. The cooking chamber is configured to receive foodstuffs for cooking. An imaging device is configured with a field of view including at least a portion of the cooking chamber. A controller is in operable communication with the imaging device. The controller is configured to acquire, via the imaging device, an image at a rate of capture, the image corresponding to foodstuffs at the cooking chamber; determine, from the image, a doneness prediction corresponding to foodstuffs at the cooking chamber; and adjust the rate of capture based on comparing a rate of change of the foodstuffs to a change threshold.

  • Patent number: 11692767
Abstract: A refrigerator appliance may include a cabinet, a door, a camera module, and a controller. The camera module may be mounted to the cabinet. The controller may be operably coupled to the camera module. The controller may be configured to initiate an operation routine. The operation routine may include initiating an image capture sequence at the camera module. The image capture sequence may include a two-dimensional image captured at the camera module. The operation routine may further include determining an appendage-occupied region within the two-dimensional image and analyzing the appendage-occupied region in response to determining the appendage-occupied region. The operation routine may still further include assigning a confidence score to a user profile stored in the controller based on analyzing the appendage-occupied region, comparing the assigned confidence score to a threshold score, and recording metadata regarding the two-dimensional image based on comparing the assigned confidence score.

  • Patent number: 11692769
Abstract: A refrigerator appliance is provided including a cabinet defining a chilled chamber, a door rotatably hinged to the cabinet to provide selective access to the chilled chamber, and a camera assembly mounted to the cabinet for monitoring the chilled chamber. A controller is operably coupled to the camera assembly and is configured to obtain a raw image using the camera assembly, analyze the raw image to identify an anchor object, crop the raw image to generate a reduced image surrounding the anchor object, and analyze the reduced image to identify a food item being added to or removed from the chilled chamber.

  • Publication number: 20230134081
Abstract: A method of operating an oven appliance includes capturing an image of a cooking chamber of the oven appliance, defining a plurality of zones within the cooking chamber as shown on the captured image, analyzing the image using one or more computer processors and image recognition features to determine at least one characteristic of an item within the cooking chamber within each zone, and comparing the at least one characteristic across the plurality of zones.

  • Publication number: 20230114475
Abstract: A method of operating an appliance includes receiving a user input including a selected operating parameter. The method may also include storing the selected operating parameter in a user profile or incrementing a selection count of the selected operating parameter. The method may further include comparing the user profile or the selection count to a plurality of features. The method also includes generating a list of recommended features comprising one or more features of the plurality of features. The list may be generated based on the comparison of the user profile to the plurality of features. The selected operating parameter may be associated with the one or more features on the list. The method further includes downloading a feature from the list of recommended features to the appliance and activating the appliance according to the downloaded feature.

  • Publication number: 20220414391
Abstract: A refrigerator appliance is provided including a cabinet defining a chilled chamber, a door rotatably hinged to the cabinet to provide selective access to the chilled chamber, and an inventory management system mounted within the chilled chamber for monitoring objects positioned within the chilled chamber. The inventory management system includes a camera assembly that obtains a plurality of images of food items as they are being added to or removed from the chilled chamber. A controller of the appliance analyzes the images using a machine learning image recognition process to identify an object and monitor the object between different images to determine a motion vector associated with its movement.

  • Patent number: 11512896
Abstract: A refrigerator appliance, as provided herein, may include a cabinet, a door, and a camera module. The cabinet may define a chilled chamber. The door may be rotatably hinged to the cabinet to provide selective access to the chilled chamber. The camera module may be movably mounted to the cabinet (e.g., above a support shelf). The camera module may be movable on the cabinet along a predefined direction between a retracted position proximal to a first end of the cabinet and an extended position proximal to a second end of the cabinet. The camera module may be directed at the chilled chamber in the extended position to capture an image thereof.
