  • Patent number: 8169991
Abstract: A mobile device for data communications has a radio circuit for data communications with a wireless network access point and a radio tag for transmitting location-identifying radio signals. The radio circuit and the radio tag are co-located on a circuit board or are commonly powered. The operation of the radio circuit and the radio tag are segregated in time to avoid interference. Standard wireless network interface protocol functions are exploited to identify time intervals in which the radio circuit is inactive for data communications. These time intervals are used to operate the radio tag to transmit the location-identifying radio signals.

  • Publication number: 20050245235
Abstract: Described are a system and method for a wireless network security. The system may include a wireless electronic device and a wireless access point. The access point includes a memory and is capable of wirelessly communicating with the device. The memory stores an access scheme which defines an authentication procedure for allowing the wireless communications between the electronic device and the further asset. The authentication procedure utilizes data as defined by the access scheme. The access point is situated in a location accessible to an authorized user and provides access for the electronic device to a further asset. The access point allows the wireless communications between the electronic device and the further asset only when the authentication procedure is successful. Before the authentication procedure, the data is transferred between the device and the access point via a physical access to at least one of the access point and the electronic device.

  • Publication number: 20050246248
Abstract: A system utilizes radio frequency identification (RFID) technology to determine the precise location of assets within a large area or building. RFID tags are attached to the assets. A mobile RFID portal, which includes an RFID tag reader, is moved along a select path through the large area or building to read information from RFID tags present in the vicinity of the path. The mobile RFID portal may be moved along the floor or on an overhead rail. The RFID tag information is analyzed along with data on the positions of the mobile RFID portal along the path and/or data on the times-of-read to determine the location of assets associated with the read RFID tags.

  • Patent number: 6694430
Abstract: An interface chip for a peripheral module connectable to and for use with a host computer is provided which utilizes an static Random access memory (SRAM) within the interface chip for both encryption of data packets and temporary storage of Card Information Structure (CIS) information. The CIS information is stored in the SRAM only during the power-up phase of operation, when encryption of data packets is not necessary and thus the memory is not being utilized for that purpose. This precludes the need for a separate SRAM IC, thus saving space on the card.
