  • Patent number: 8724582
Abstract: In an exemplary embodiment of this invention contexts are transferred at an appropriate time depending on the context type. As a result, link layer (PPP) delay can be substantially eliminated during Mobile IP handoff, without introducing additional packet loss. By way of example, all MS contexts (both static and dynamic) are maintained during the inter-PDSN handoff procedure, and any executing applications are not impacted by the inter-PDSN handoff.

  • Patent number: 8416753
Abstract: A system is provided for pushing content to a terminal located within a mobile network or a private network. The system includes a network node, such as a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) proxy, located across a public network from the network including the terminal. The network node is capable of subscribing to a push service on behalf of the terminal such that the network node is also capable of receiving push content in accordance with the push service. • Patent number: 7593364
Abstract: A method is disclosed to operate a wireless network (20) with a MS (100) and includes, in response to detecting that the MS has changed its location in the wireless network, registering the MS with a BS (45) to indicate the current location of the MS and, in response to the MS registering with the BS, triggering the sending of messages in the wireless network until information that is indicative of the current location of the MS is recorded by an AAA server (80). The AAA server can be subsequently queried to obtain the current location of the MS, such as when a network initiated data session (NIDS) for the MS is initiated. Also disclosed is a method to page a MS by, in response to the initiation of a NIDS for the MS, querying a home AAA server for a current BS/PCF/PDSN affiliation of the MS and sending a page message to the MS in accordance with the current BS/PCF/PDSN affiliation of the MS.

  • Patent number: 7333454
Abstract: A system for handing off a mobile node includes a mobile node and a target foreign agent. To effectuate a handoff of the mobile node from an anchor foreign agent to the target foreign agent, a tunnel can be established therebetween such that data packet(s) sent between the mobile node and a correspondent node pass between the target foreign agent and the anchor foreign agent through the tunnel. After the tunnel is established, the mobile node can register with the target foreign agent to thereby bind the mobile node to the target foreign agent such that data packet(s) sent between the mobile node and the correspondent node pass through the target foreign agent to the correspondent node independent of the anchor foreign agent and the tunnel. Thereafter, the target foreign agent can close the tunnel between the target foreign agent and the anchor foreign agent.

  • Patent number: 7233583
Abstract: In exemplary embodiments of this invention context transfers (static and dynamic) are optimally performed to maintain the same quality of service (QoS) for a Mobile Station (MS) during a CDMA inter-BS hard handoff, as well as during a CDMA inter-BS soft handoff. Context transfers (static and dynamic) are also optimally performed to maintain the same QoS for the MS during a CDMA inter-Packet Control Function (PCF) hard handoff.

  • Patent number: 7222196
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating communication of data in a packet radio communication system to effectuate a packet communication service in which packet data is communicated at a variable, selectable rate. A detector embodied at an RLP layer detects channel allocations and channel reaollcations, granted to the mobile station to effectuate the data communication service. A report is generated at the RLP layer and forwarded to the TCP layer. At the TCP layer, selection is made of the TCP window to match the rate at which data is provided to the RLP layer to the rate, based upon the channel allocations provided to the mobile station, at which the data is communicated therefrom.

  • Publication number: 20070111698
Abstract: An approach is disclosed for providing bearer selection and transmission parameter configuration between a wireless terminal and a computing device. A request message is received from the computing device that is configured to execute a plurality of applications, wherein the request message specifies selection of a bearer channel and quality of service (QoS) requirement to support one of the applications. In response to the received request message, the bearer channel is configured with the QoS requirement, wherein the configured bearer channel is established for the one application.

  • Publication number: 20070091900
Abstract: A method is provided for transmitting data, wherein control packets are given priority with respect to application data packets. In general, this is accomplished by establishing a separate, distinct link flow over which only control packets (e.g., TCP control packets) will be transmitted. A higher priority is associated with this link flow. In addition, the reliability of control packets sent over the dedicated link flow can be improved upon by increasing the number of retransmissions associated with the control packets and/or decreasing the window of time before the retransmissions are sent. A system, mobile terminal, network entity, and computer program product for implementing the method are also provided.

  • Patent number: 7197026
Abstract: A method and system for improving the efficiency of radio communication by optimizing at the radio link protocol (RLP) layer. When TCP segments are passed down from the TCP layer at a sending device, they are accompanied by TCP segment information such as TCP segment length or TCP segment number. The RLP layer receiving the data stores the TCP-segment information along with the data, and divides the data into frames for transmission. Using the TCP information, when the RLP layer receives a NAK indicating loss of an RLP frame for which retransmission will not occur, the RLP layer drops not only that frame, but also any other buffered frames associated with the same TCP segment with which the lost frame was associated, regardless of whether the other frames have been transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20060174004
Abstract: Provided are improved systems, methods, devices, and computer program products for optimized access network authentication of an access terminal on an access network supporting negotiation of an application level protocol for the air link or implementing access network authentication functionality with an extended packet-oriented RLP. A packet-oriented air link application layer protocol supporting the functionality of CHAP authentication, such as an application level authentication protocol operating on an HRPD EvDO Rev A access network or an extended packet-oriented RLP operating on an enhanced HRPD EvDO Rev A access network, can be used for authenticating an access terminal on the access network without setting up a PPP session for access network authentication, such as setting up a PPP session with the SC/MM network entity by doing LCP and CHAP just to do terminal authentication using the protocols of the PPP protocol suite.

  • Publication number: 20060062177
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for communicating data pursuant to a communication session, such as a VoIP communication session between communication endpoint nodes in header-reduced form. Header reduction is performed at the communication endpoint nodes, obviating the need for the operations to be performed at the network. A reservation request message is generated at the communication endpoint nodes, and a mapping is formed by a mapper at the network part. The mapping is used to cause routing of the data packets in the header-reduced form between the communication endpoint nodes.

  • Publication number: 20060034256
Abstract: A system is provided that includes a network entity, such as a packet data switching node (PDSN), and a terminal capable of establishing a data-link connection with the network entity, such as after setting up a physical-layer connection with the network entity. After the data-link connection is established, the network entity and the terminal can configure a network-layer protocol such that data formatted in accordance with the network-layer protocol can thereafter be sent between the terminal and the network entity over the data-link connection. Then, during configuration of the network-layer protocol, the terminal can discover at least one service available to the terminal by receiving, from the network entity, a listing of the at least one available service. The listing of each available service includes an address of a provider of the available service and a port number and/or pathname for accessing the service at the provider.

  • Publication number: 20060018280
Abstract: A system for handing off a mobile node includes a mobile node and a target agent. The mobile node can communicate with an anchor agent, and can also be handed off from the anchor agent. The mobile node can establish a physical-layer connection between the mobile node and a target base station associated with the target agent. Also, the target agent can establish a tunnel between the target agent and the anchor agent. Thereafter, the mobile node can establish a link-layer connection between the mobile node and the target agent via the anchor agent and the tunnel. Then, the mobile node can register with the target agent to thereby bind the mobile node to the target agent such that data packet(s) pass through the target agent, across the link-layer connection and the physical-layer connection, and independent of the anchor agent and the tunnel.
