  • Publication number: 20080067719
Abstract: A method for the manufacture of a molding composition from a raw material melt which is charged with an additive includes the steps: charging a conveyor apparatus with a raw material which includes a liquid or gooey pasty composition or a granulate; converting the raw material into a raw material melt by heat supply to the raw material; charging the raw material melt with an additive; mixing of the raw material melt with the additive to produce a molding composition; and discharging the molding composition from the conveyor apparatus. The charging of the raw material melt with the additive takes place through a metering device which is arranged in a passage section of the conveyor apparatus and/or subsequent to the conveyor apparatus with the raw material melt flowing through and/or around the passage section. The metering device includes at least one metering element which is arranged in a recess of the passage section.

  • Patent number: 7291008
Abstract: The needle shut-off nozzle is provided in a housing for delivering polymer melt to an injection molding machine or an injection molding tool. The nozzle is mounted in a channel of the housing for a flow of the polymer melt, a nozzle at an outlet of the channel, a shut-off needle guided in the channel for shutting off the nozzle, and a needle drive for moving the shut-off needle. The needle drive includes a drive cylinder inside said channel, a piston connected to the shut-off needle and a pneumatic circuit for delivering a compressed gas at a pressure greater than 50 bar to the drive cylinder to drive the piston.

  • Patent number: 7198748
Abstract: The injection molding machine comprises a screw plunger (3), which rotates inside an injection unit (2), wherein the screw plunger (3) has, downstream from a metering zone a porous or permeable section (16) which can be charged with a physical expanding agent via an expanding agent feed device (18) in the screw shaft of the screw plunger (3) and which two-dimensionally introduces the expanding agent into the melt flow for molding of foamed shaped parts made of polymeric materials in an injection molding machine by an injection molding method.

  • Publication number: 20070036029
Abstract: The apparatus is provided for impregnating a melt of polymer with a fluid working medium, such as, an expanding agent or an additive. Impregnation is carried out for the purpose of manufacturing foamed shaped parts using an injection molding machine. The impregnating body includes at least one melt channel formed in a gas permeable segment and a channel system for fluid infeed. The gas permeable material, e.g. sintered metal, separates the fluid from the stream of melt in the melt channel(s). Each melt channel has open pores at its inner surface which enable the impregnation. The melt channels can contain static mixers in the stream of melt to promote the distribution of the diffused fluid in the flow of melt.

  • Publication number: 20060235094
Abstract: A liquid silicone rubber molding composition (LSR) in the form of two separate components (A, B) is conveyed separately in two streams under elevated pressure and impregnated with an expanding agent (C). Thereafter, the two streams are mixed together under elevated pressure and then, while reducing the pressure, the reactive mixture is injected into a heated cavity of a shape-giving tool in which the molding composition is simultaneously foamed with a cross-linking reaction. The shaped polymer part that is manufactured has a degree of foaming of from 5 to 70% by volume and/or a Shore A hardness reduced by at least 10% in relation to a shaped polymer part of non-foamed LSR the polymer part may be formed in accordance with its end use purpose.

  • Publication number: 20050267226
Abstract: The method for the manufacture of a foamed polymer body from a mold composition is carried out using a shaping tool in which a cross-linking reaction and a formation of foam bubbles takes place simultaneously. Before a processing of the mold composition, the two separately held components (A, B) from which the composition is made each includes partial means for the carrying out of the cross-linking reaction and which differ by these partial means. The two components (A, B) are transported separately in two flows under elevated pressure at the start of the preparation. In this process, both components, or only one of the components, are impregnated with a foaming agent (C). The two flows are then combined under still elevated pressure and are mixed in this process. Finally, the reactive mixture formed by mixing is continuously extruded while lowering the pressure or is injected in a metered manner into a cavity of the shaping tool.
