  • Publication number: 20220330022
Abstract: An apparatus and system for onboarding based on UE default manufacturer credentials are described. A UE sends default manufacturer credentials and an indication to proceed with restricted onboarding to an onboarding non-public network (O-SNPN). An Onboarding Server validates the authenticity of the UE based on the manufacturer credentials and sends a certificate. The UE is provisioned with a set of roots of trust certificate information to use to authenticate the certificate using one way authentication. After authentication, the UE receives network credentials and performs mutual authentication to register with a NPN while being authenticated by a home network. The UE identity is indicated as anonymous in response to an indication by the O-SNPN for subscriber identifier privacy.

  • Publication number: 20220167244
Abstract: Techniques are provided for managing the provisioning of voice services to a user equipment (UE) in a fifth generation (5G) network. For example, the UE generates a registration request message that includes 5G mobility management (5GMM) capabilities of the UE that are indicative of whether the UE supports voice over internet protocol multimedia subsystem (IMS), and transmits the registration request message to a next generation radio acess network (NGRAN) node in the 5G wireless network. Based on the 5GMM capabilities, the NG-RAN node can determine whether voice over IMS can be provided to UE by comparing the 5GMM capabilities to capabilities of the NG-RAN node.

  • Patent number: 11343706
Abstract: Systems and methods of segregating a SDF of a PDU session are described. The UE transmits a NAS message to the network. The NAS message indicates the SDF, the desired QoS, and a segregation indication that requests that the network establish a separate QoS flow for the SDF even if an existing QoS flow is able to support the specific QoS. The SF decides whether or not to establish the separate QoS flow and updates filters in the UPF as well as providing a response to the UE containing a similar indication. The UE modifies resources related to the PDU session based on the response. The QoS is indicated as a 5QI and GBR or as a QFI of an existing QoS Flow on which the SDF is to be added if the separate QoS is not established. The QFI is in an unencrypted SDAP header of the NAS message.

  • Publication number: 20220159616
Abstract: In an example method, a user equipment (UE) determines a first identifier assigned to the UE for use on a first wireless communications network and one or more first time slots for monitoring the first wireless communication networks. The UE determines a second identifier assigned to the UE for use on a second wireless communications network and one or more second time slots for monitoring the second wireless communication networks. The UE determines that the one or more first time slots at least partially overlap the one or more second time slots, and in response, transmits to the second wireless communications network, a request for a third identifier to be assigned to the UE for use on the second wireless communications network and/or a request that the one or more second time slots be offset by an interval of time.

  • Publication number: 20220078692
Abstract: A computer system that establishes a first registration and a second registration in a common wireless communication system is described. During operation, the computer system performs a first registration of the user equipment over a first access, where, after the first registration, the user equipment is connected via the first access with a first access and mobility management function (AMF). Then, the computer system performs a second registration of the user equipment over a second access, where the second access is different from the first access and, after the second registration, the user equipment is connected via the second access with a second AMF. Moreover, when performing the second registration, the computer system: transfers a context of the user equipment from the first AMF to the second AMF; and/or relocates a network interface in a control plane from the first AMF to the second AMF.

  • Publication number: 20220070664
Abstract: Systems and methods of protecting an initial NAS message are described. Depending on whether a security context for a serving PLMN is stored, the UE uses either a public key from the serving PLMN or a key from the security context to encrypt parts of the initial NAS message. An initial NAS message containing the encrypted parts is then sent to an AMF of the serving PLMN. The serving PLMN public key is transmitted via a SIB. Prior to transmission of the initial NAS message or in parallel with it, an RRC message is sent to the base station. The RRC message contains the UE identifier and/or a NSSAI encrypted using the serving PLMN public key.

  • Publication number: 20220053415
Abstract: Embodiments of a User Equipment (UE) and methods of communication are generally described herein. The UE may be configurable to operate as an initiating UE for a vehicle-to-everything (V2X) application that includes PCS communication between the initiating UE and a receiving UE. The initiating UE may receive, from a base station, control signaling that indicates a default PCS radio access technology (RAT) for the V2X service. The default PCS RAT may be either a Long Term Evolution (LTE) PCS RAT or a New Radio (NR) PCS RAT. Based on the default PCS RAT and/or PCS RATs supported by the initiating UE, the initiating UE may select either the LTE PCS RAT or the NR PCS RAT. The selected PCS RAT may be proposed, in a negotiation with the receiving UE, for the V2X service.

  • Publication number: 20220038948
Abstract: An apparatus and system to enable dynamic offloading and execution of compute tasks are described. In split CU-DU RAN architectures, the CU-CP is connected with multiple compute control functions (CF) and service functions (SF) that have different computing hardware/software capabilities. Different architectures depend on whether the SF is collocated with the CU-UP, the CU-UP and SF only serve compute messages, a compute message is supplied directly to the CU-UP or also traverses the CU-CP. In response to reception from a UE of a compute message containing data for computation being sent to the CU-CP through the DU, the CU-CP sends the data to the SF with identifiers and sends the result to the UE.

  • Publication number: 20220022105
Abstract: Systems and methods of providing 5G access for a UE are generally described. The UE is simultaneously connected via dual radio operation to a legacy and 5G access system. The UE mobility management states for the access systems are independent of each other. The EPC and 5G CN share an HSS and may share a IP anchor. When handover occurs between access systems, the IP address is retained and the IP anchor used when the UE transmits an Attach Request having a Handover Attach Request Type and otherwise a new IP address is provided and the HSS but not the IP anchor is common between the access systems. The 5G eNB to which the UE is connected is standalone and connected to the 5G CN or dual mode and connected with an EPC via an LTE anchor in addition to the 5G CN.

  • Publication number: 20220007182
Abstract: Systems and methods of protecting an initial NAS message are described. The NAS message is encrypted using the home PLMN public key during initial registration with the network using a registration request message. An AMF of the serving PLMN sends a serving PLMN public key which is then used to encrypt information including an S-NSSAI of later initial NAS messages after initial registration is completed. The S-NSSAI may not be sent in the later initial NAS message if the S-NSSAI is provided at an access stratum level. The RRC message may contain an indication that the S-NSSAI is encrypted using the serving PLMN public key.

  • Publication number: 20210368556
Abstract: An apparatus and system for onboarding network behavior based on the type of UE and identification information are described. The identification information, if provided by the UE, is provided either during an initial registration procedure or a configured PDU session establishment procedure and includes one or both of an SO-SNPN and provisioning server identity. The UE, if identification information is provided by an SMF, overwrites the default identification information stored in the UE and performs provisioning server discovery on a provisioning server identity in the identification information. If the UE does not store provisioning server identification, the UE constructs a well-defined FQDN to perform provisioning server discovery.

  • Publication number: 20210352467
Abstract: Systems and methods of providing UE capability are described. A capability ID is associated with the same Radio Capability information for multiple UEs. If the capability ID is validated at a network node, the UE provides the capability ID to a RAN node, which obtains the capability information from the network node after providing the received capability ID to the RAN node. The capability ID is received in an RRC Setup Complete, Security Mode Complete or Reconfiguration Complete message. The network node, if the Radio Capability information is not available, requests and receives the Radio Capability information and associates it with the capability ID, and marks that the capability ID as not validated until a threshold number of the UEs have provided the same Radio Capability information. The capability ID is based on a UE device type, manufacturer and software version.

  • Patent number: 11160006
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) can include processing circuitry configured to decode system information including access barring parameters for one or more access categories for accessing a cell of a next generation Node-B (gNB). A network access attempt is detected by a control plane layer of the UE that is higher than a Radio Resource Control (RRC) layer. The processing circuitry map s, using a Non-Access Stratum (NAS) layer of the control plane, the network access attempt to at least one access category of a plurality of available access categories based on mapping rules. The processing circuitry performs an access barring check procedure for the mapped at least one access category based on the access barring parameters. Upon determining that access to the cell is not barred, a NAS message is encoded for transmission to an Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF), e.g. an Attach Request message to perform an attach procedure.
