  • Patent number: 10834618
Abstract: In a wireless network, a Distributed Unit (DU) wirelessly receives a service request from User Equipment (UE) and transfers the service request to a Centralized Unit (CU). The CU transfers the service request to a network controller which selects an individual functionality split for the UE. The DU wirelessly exchanges user communications with the UE. The DU circuitry processes the user communications with some of a Physical Layer (PHY), Media Access Control (MAC), Radio Link Control (RLC), Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP), Radio Resource Control (RRC), and Service Data Adaptation Protocol (SDAP) based on the selected functionality split. The CU circuitry processes the user communications the rest of the PHY, MAC, RLC, PDCP, RRC, and SDAP based on the selected functionality split.

  • Patent number: 10798706
Abstract: In a wireless communication system including a group of base stations, the base stations are all configured to operate on a common wideband carrier, and each base station is further configured to operate on a narrowband carrier defined as a guest carrier within the frequency range of the wideband carrier, with each base station's narrowband carrier being non-overlapping in frequency with each other base station's narrowband carrier. Further, each base station could be configured to avoid allocation of air-interface resources on the common wideband carrier that would overlap in frequency with the narrowband carrier on which any other base station of the group is configured to operate within the wideband carrier.

  • Patent number: 10790885
Abstract: When a base station has reason to increase the extent of MU-MIMO service that it can provide or in other contexts, the base station could select at least one of the base station's served UEs to have its MIMO rank reduced, with the selecting being based at least on a determination that the selected UE has had a threshold high rate of data retransmissions such as a threshold high rate of HARQ retransmissions for instance.

  • Patent number: 10764336
Abstract: In a wireless communication system where a wireless access network includes a base station providing coverage in which to serve devices and where the wireless access network provides connectivity with an Internet Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), a method and system to help manage network resources by dynamically controlling when setup of a dedicated bearer will be invoked for a packet-based call placed by a device served by the base station. If the base station is lightly loaded, then setup of dedicated bearer could be invoked before the called party answers the call. Whereas, if the base station is heavily loaded, then setup of the dedicated bearer could be invoked if and when the called party has answered.

  • Patent number: 10750413
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and systems for configuring service of a user equipment device (UE). When the UE has dual-connectivity service, such as EN-DC service, poor quality on one of the UE's air-interface connections could result in transition of the UE to single-connectivity service. To address technological issues that may arise in this process, one of the UE's serving Node-Bs (NBs) could control teardown of an access bearer homed to the other of the UE's serving NBs. Further or alternatively, a control-plane signaling path that is homed to one of the UE's serving NBs could be replaced with a control-plane signaling path instead homed to the other of the UE's serving NBs. In addition, in appropriate circumstances, when such reconfiguration occurs, service of the UE could be switched from one core network to another.

  • Patent number: 10750416
Abstract: While a device is served on a first wireless connection on a first carrier that has a first center frequency, a determination will be made that a threshold high probability of precipitation is forecast for a location of the first wireless connection. In response to at least that determination, but before the forecast precipitation occurs, the device will then be reconfigured from being served on the first wireless connection on the first carrier to instead being served on a second wireless connection on a second carrier that has a second center frequency lower than the first center frequency, with the reconfiguring being based on the second center frequency being lower than the first center frequency. Proactively switching the device to a lower carrier based on the prediction of precipitation may help to minimize rain fade and associated issues.

  • Publication number: 20200204990
Abstract: A wireless network transfers UE information to an authorization server. The authorization server generates an expected result based on a random number and secret key in response to the UE information. The authorization server transfers the expected result and the random number to the wireless network which transfers the random number to the UE. The wireless network receives an authentication result from the UE and authenticates the UE by matching the authentication result to the expected result. In response to network authentication, the wireless network transfers the expected result to a conferencing server. The conferencing server receives the authentication result from the UE and registers the UE by matching the authentication result to the expected result. The conferencing server establishes media conferences for the UE. The wireless network exchanges media for the UE.

When the UE has dual-connectivity service, such as EN-DC service, high quality on one of the UE's air-interface connections could result in transition of the UE to operate in discontinuous reception (DRX) mode on the UE's other air-interface connection.
