Abstract: The presently disclosed subject matter relates to the diagnosis of diseases, and more particularly to the diagnosis of diseases using information contained within an electronic medical record. In particular, the presently disclosed subject matter provides for systems and methods for monitoring, detecting and categorizing disease states. In one embodiment, the system and method can include determining the present or indication of one or more disease state criteria and alerting the hospital information system and at least one clinician if at least one or more disease state criteria are present or indicated.
