Abstract: A method and apparatus for retrieving picture information stored in an information center and subsequently storing the picture information in a user terminal by registering in the information center retrieval control information having picture numbers used in the retrieving operation, requesting the retrieval control information from the information center through a communication line, receiving and storing the retrieval control information in the user terminal, analyzing the retrieval control information and extracting the picture numbers contained in the retrieval control information, transmitting the picture numbers to the information center through the communication line to request the picture information corresponding to the picture numbers, and receiving and storing the picture information in the user terminal, wherein the picture retrieval operations can be achieved in an off-line mode by using the stored picture information and the stored retrieval control information received during an on-line mode.

Abstract: A protocol converting apparatus in which when character information electronic signals of a NAPLPS (North American Presentation Level Protocol Syntax) system are displayed on a user terminal apparatus of a CAPTAIN (Character And Pattern Telephone Access Information electronic signal Network) system, the overflow condition in a row direction and the overflow condition in a column direction are detected and in which in the case of the overflow condition in a column, an overflow character information electronic signal is temporarily stored in a memory, whereby the NAPLPS character information electronic signal can be used by all user terminals of the CAPTAIN system.

Abstract: A color-signal converting circuit for generating three primary-color display signals receives a first binary data signal, which requires the use of a look-up table before it can be displayed, and a second binary data signal, which does not require a look-up table but is in a format different than the first binary data signal, and selects one of these two-inputs for display after a memory unit performs either a look-up table operation or a conversion operation, as determined by a logical circuit priority decision based on one of the two input data signals.

A keyboard is provided for entering at least an image selection command, and the user terminal is responsive thereto to display the image whose image number data is stored in the image number memory.
