  • Patent number: 8714939
Abstract: A water pump includes a housing, a pumping mechanism, and a pulley that receives an input torque. Rotation of a clutch disk provides a rotational force to the pumping mechanism. A ferromagnetic clutch ring rotates in unison with the pulley. The clutch ring moves between a disengaged position and an engaged position to selectively rotate the clutch disk in response to the input torque. A magnet disposed on the clutch disk attracts the clutch ring toward the engaged position, and an electromagnetic coil is operable to selectively diminish the attraction of the clutch ring to the magnet to move the clutch ring between the engaged and disengaged positions.

  • Publication number: 20130325191
Abstract: A modulator modulates a voltage signal corresponding to inputted transmission data, and outputs the signal as a voltage signal between a communication wire and a shared wire. A demodulator demodulates a voltage signal based on the potential difference between the communication wire and the shared wire, and outputs the signal as a demodulated signal. A connector connects the communication wire and the shared wire to the modulator and the demodulator by means of a high voltage capacitor that withstands voltages up to a predetermined level. A controller receives, as incoming data, serial data corresponding to a voltage signal demodulated in demodulator if the serial data includes an address of its own apparatus, monitors a demodulated signal outputted from the demodulator, and outputs transmission data that includes a destination address to the modulator if the controller determines that no signal is being transmitted in the communication wire.

  • Publication number: 20130287075
Abstract: A sampler samples a receive signal received via a dedicated communication line. A data transfer rate adjuster measures a data transfer rate based on a number of start bit samples contained in the receive signal. A bit determiner makes a bit determination regarding the receive signal at the data transfer rate measured by the data transfer rate adjuster, to thereby acquire serial data contained in the receive signal. A transmitter sends, via the dedicated communication line, a transmit signal containing serial data sent by an MPU. An MPU communicator outputs to the transmitter the serial data sent by the MPU, and outputs to the MPU the serial data acquired by the bit determiner. The data transfer rate adjuster adjusts, when the transmitter sends the transmit signal multiple times at different data transfer rates, the data transfer rate based on the receive status of respective response signals thereto.

  • Publication number: 20110265461
Abstract: It is determined quickly whether there is a shortage in reducing agent supplied to an NOx selective reduction catalyst. After it is determined that a quantity of reducing agent equal to or larger than a predetermined quantity is absorbed in the NOx selective reduction catalyst on the assumption that there is no abnormality in reducing agent supply unit, the supply of a quantity of reducing agent needed to reduce a quantity of NOx flowing into the NOx selective reduction catalyst is started. A determination of an abnormality in the reducing agent supply unit is made based on the NOx removal rate after the lapse of a predetermined period of time since the start of the supply of reducing agent. The NOx removal rate becomes lower when there is an abnormality in the reducing agent supply unit.

  • Patent number: 7889061
Abstract: A power-line communication device in which a control signal is superimposed on a power line between a switching power supply and a unit to be controlled to which an output of the switching power supply is supplied, so that the control signal is transmitted to the unit. At the same time, a switching noise generated by the switching power supply is monitored and communication is started by using the switching noise, as a synchronizing signal. Subsequently, communication can be performed during the intervals between the switching noises so that erroneous signal detection is reduced.

  • Patent number: 7586511
Abstract: Disclosed are a frequency modulation apparatus and a frequency modulation method for generating an image clock that is used for turning on/off a laser beam that scans an image bearing member, such as a photosensitive drum. The frequency modulation apparatus divides, into a plurality of segments for each pixel, a main scan line on an image bearing member, and calculates auxiliary clock periods based on a reference clock period and variable-magnification coefficients corresponding to the segments. Then, the frequency modulation apparatus generates image clocks for the respective segments based on an initial predesignated period value and the obtained auxiliary clock periods. Furthermore, the frequency modulation apparatus includes a detecting device for detecting a difference between a reference value stored in a memory and an actual laser irradiation location, and corrects a shift in the laser irradiation location in accordance with the detection results obtained by the detecting device.
