A CAN controller in the gateway transmits and receives a message attached with a priority level (ID) to/from an ECU through a communication line, and counts, by the consecutive block number counter, the number of transmitted messages that are consecutively blocked as a result of arbitration processing as the number of consecutive blocks and stores the number as the number of allowed blocks into an allowed block number table in the storage unit in association with a priority level attached to the message received at the communication line. Every time a message is received, the controller compares the number of consecutive blocks with the number of allowed blocks for this message, and detects abnormality if the number of consecutive blocks is larger than the number of allowed blocks.

    Abstract: In a communication system, an in-vehicle relay device relays data between ECUs, which are each connected to a communication line in a vehicle, by communicating with each of the ECUs. Data received by a communication device from a server outside the vehicle is input to an out-of-vehicle relay device. Data to be transmitted by the communication device to the server is output to the communication device by the out-of-vehicle relay device. The out-of-vehicle relay device relays data between the server and the ECUs by passing data to and from the in-vehicle relay device. The out-of-vehicle relay device outputs, to the in-vehicle relay device, data input to the out-of-vehicle relay device, or associated data that is associated with data that was output. The in-vehicle relay device determines whether the relaying performed by the out-of-vehicle relay device is to be suspended, based on associated data output by the out-of-vehicle relay device.

A rewrite detection device generates a random seed and transmits it to an ECU and a server device. The ECU calculates a hash value using a predetermined hash function on the basis of the received random seed and the storage content of the storage unit, and transmits the hash value to the rewrite detection device. The server device transmits an expectation in response to an inquiry from the rewrite detection device. The rewrite detection device determines whether unauthorized rewrite to a program or data in the ECU has been performed or not in accordance with whether the expectation received from the server device and the hash value received from the ECU coincide with each other or not.

The ECU decides a storage region serving among storage regions of the storage unit, and calculates the hash value. The frame generator generates a message containing data to be transmitted to each ECU, and then transmits the message. Based on the state of a signal indicating the electric power supply status, the frame generator controls the permission or non-permission of transmission processing such that frame transmission is not performed to the ECU to which electric power supply from an electric power supply control device. When any communication part has received an abnormal frame, the frame generator does not include data contained in frames received afterward by the communication part, into a frame generated for other communication parts.
