Abstract: A steel sheet for a battery container is covered with nickel-tin alloy layer on one side to be the inner side of the battery container which is formed by drawing the steel sheet. A battery using the steel sheet is manufactured by firstly filling positive electrode mix consisting of manganese oxide, graphite and potassium hydroxide and secondly filling negative electrode active material consisting of zinc and potassium hydroxide in the battery container.

Abstract: A laminate of an oriented resin film and a metal sheet substrate is used in the manufacture of can stock, the intensity of orientation of the resin film being greater along the bottom of the can and lesser along the can side wall. This construction is obtained by locally cooling, during lamination, that part of the heated metal substrate which will become the bottom wall of the resultant can.

Abstract: Surface treated steel sheets for battery containers according to the present invention are composed of two surfaces, one of which is to be used as an inner surface of a battery container and the other as an outer surface of a battery container. On the inner surface, between the topmost nickel-tin alloy layer and the base steel sheet are formed intermediate layer(s) of nickel-iron, or nickel and nickel-iron, or nickel-tin-iron and nickel-iron. The present invention also relates to battery containers and batteries made from these surface treated steel sheets.

Abstract: According to the present invention, there is provided a method of forming a corrosion-resistant nickel plated steel sheet or strip comprising a base sheet made of a cold rolled steel sheet or strip. A nickel layer is electroplated on at least one side thereof. A part or all of the nickel plated layer forms Fe-Ni diffusion layer. Moreover, the exposure rate of iron on the surface of the nickel plated layer is 4-30%.
