  • Patent number: 7245081
Abstract: A high-intensity discharge lamp connected to a lighting device has various superior emission properties such as efficiency. The discharge lamp includes a translucent ceramic discharge vessel, in which a pair of electrodes and a discharge medium are inserted. The lamp further includes an outer jacket, in which the arc tube is disposed, and a pair of feeder members. The discharge medium has metal halides including those of Na, Tl and Tm or Na, Tl, In and Tm, and the ratio (MTm/M) of the weight of the gross sealed mass M of the metal halides to the filled mass MTm of the Tm halide is about 0.4?MTm/M?0.9. The deviation in chromaticity (d.u.v.) on the x-y chromaticity coordinates (CIE 1931) for the overall operating position during the life of the lamp is within the range of about ?0.006 to +0.010.

  • Patent number: 6642655
Abstract: A high-pressure metal halide discharge lamp includes a sealed light-transmitting discharge vessel, first and second electrodes disposed in the discharge space, and a pair of conductive wires connected to the respective electrodes. The sealed light-transmitting discharge vessel has a pair of seals and envelops a discharge space, which has a gas filling comprising rare gas and metal halides. A first electrode with an emitter disposed in the discharge space at an one side is made of a metal having a high melting point. A second electrode without an emitter disposed in the discharge space at the other side is made of a metal having a high melting point. The pair of conductive wires, which are connected to the respective electrodes, are located in the respective seals and extend from the discharge vessel.

  • Patent number: 6628082
Abstract: A glow starter comprises a discharge vessel, filled with a filling including a rare gas, substantially transmitting ultraviolet rays of about 300 nm or less. A pair of electrodes, which are arranged in the discharge vessel, is adapted and arranged to touch each other by being heated by a glow discharge. The glow starter may be used for a high pressure discharge lamp, a high pressure discharge lamp apparatus, or a lighting fixture.

  • Patent number: 5243251
Abstract: This invention provides an improved layer coated on the outer surface of the envelope of high intensity discharge lamps, halogen lamps and so on. The overcoated layer is provided for preventing glass pieces of the envelope from scattering when the glass envelope is broken. Therefore the improved and strengthened layer comprises a fluorocarbon polymer containing metal oxide grains dispersed therein. The metal oxide grains are dispersed in the fluorocarbon polymer since the overcoated layer is heated at more than 200.degree. C. Further, for the purpose of strengthening the overcoated layer, the overcoated layer has an even density of the metal oxide grains in the fluorocarbon polymer. The even density of the metal oxide grains in the fluorocarbon polymer is obtained only by this invention of the coating method that includes a electrostatic coating step.
