  • Patent number: 5937091
Abstract: A method and apparatus for assigning a temporary label to each connected area in an image by scanning the image by using a window which has a size of two pixels in the vertical direction and of a plurality of pixels in the horizontal direction. A set of values of pixels contained in the above window is obtained and one of predetermined temporary label assignment rules corresponding to the obtained set of pixel values is selected. A temporary label is assigned to each pixel contained in the window, based on the above one of the temporary label assignment rules determined as above, and based on temporary labels of pixels in the second group in the window at the above each location. In addition, the temporary labels are converted to true labels, by scanning the image pixel within the at least one circumscribing area only, where each circumscribing area is predetermined so that the at least one circumscribing area contains all pixels which do not belong to a background area in the image.

  • Patent number: 5889887
Abstract: A character box extracting unit extracts a line forming a character box. Then, the character box intersection calculating unit calculates the intersection of the character box with a character pattern. An intersection corresponding unit associates intersections with each other based on the directional property of character lines, distance between the character lines, etc. An in-box character extracting unit extracts a virtual image according to the association information between the intersections. A character size evaluating unit obtains from an optional character string an average character size of a character including the virtual image, and extracts a true character pattern by removing a redundant virtual image based on the average character size.

  • Patent number: 5581633
Abstract: In a character segmenting apparatus the extracting section extracts the character segment pattern on the basis of the connection data imparted to the segment pattern. The character size calculating section calculates a histogram of a lengthwise or crosswise character size of a circumscribed rectangle circumscribed with the extracted character segment pattern and also calculates an average character size and its variance value on the basis of the histogram of the character size. The character pitch calculating section calculates a histogram of a pitch between the circumscribed rectangles and also calculates an average character pitch and its variance value on the basis of the histogram of the character pitch. The integrating section integrates the character while changing character integrating conditions in accordance with the average character size, the size variance value, the average character pitch and the pitch variance value.

  • Patent number: 5572602
Abstract: In an image extraction system, an extracting part for extracting wide lines, an extracting part for extracting narrow lines and a frame detector detect a frame from a pattern which is extracted by a connected pattern extracting part. An attribute adder adds attributes of a character (graphic and symbol inclusive), frame, and a contact pattern of the character and frame to a partial pattern, and a separating part separates the frame from the contact pattern. An intersection calculator calculates intersections of the character and frame, and the calculated intersections are associated by an intersection associating part. An interpolator obtains a character region within the frame and interpolates this region based on the associated intersections. A connection confirming part confirms a connection of the pattern with respect to the extracted character pattern, and patterns confirmed of their connection are integrated in a connected pattern integrating part to thereby extract the character.

  • Patent number: 5459793
Abstract: A motion analysis system utilizing an image processing technique includes a color marker attached to an object which is to be analyzed. Each color marker has a high directivity reflective member on a surface thereof, and the reflection member reflects light having a particular wavelength. A light source generates light for irradiation onto the color marker. A color TV camera aligned in roughly the same direction as that of the light source receives reflected light from the color marker and outputs a color image. A color extraction unit connected to the TV camera, extracts only a particular color from the color image produced by the TV camera. An area calculation unit connected to the color extraction unit, calculates the area of the particular color extracted by the color extraction unit.

  • Patent number: 5214504
Abstract: A moving video image estimation system wherein based on an original video image of time n and time n+1, the centroid, the principal axix of inertia, the moment about the principal axis of inertia and the moment about the axis perpendicular to the principal axis of inertia are obtained. By using this information, an affine transformation for transforming the original video image at time n to the original video image at time n+1 is obtained. Based on the infinitesimal transformation (A), {exp (At), and exp (A(t-1))} obtained by making the affine transformation continuous with regard to time is executed on the original video image at time n and time n+1. The results are synthesized to perform an interpolation between the frames. {exp (a(t-1))} is applied to the original video system time n+1. The video image after time n+1 is thereby protected.

  • Patent number: 4880518
Abstract: A disk carrier is comprised of a carrier plate having one or more throughholes at which disks are carried with both surfaces exposed to be processed. Abutting and partially around each of these throughholes is a recess such that not only can a disk be easily positioned at the throughhole without having its surface scratched but also a corner is formed in this recessed region which can serve as an indexing depression. For this purpose, the recess may be fomed with a bottom surface parallel to the surface of the carrier plate and boundary wall in the form of a part of a polygon such that two mutually adjacent straight parts thereof, together with the bottom surface, form a corner which can serve as a reference position easily accessible by a touch sensor.
