  • Publication number: 20160188540
Abstract: Techniques describe tagging visual data with wireless and sensor measurement information by a mobile device. In some implementations, additional metadata fields may be used for tagging visual data with wireless and/or sensor measurement information. Embodiments also describe expanding the current format dictated by the standards for image (e.g., Exif) and video formats (mediaObject metadata) to include wireless and sensor measurements in the metadata. Furthermore, sensor information may include barometer, magnetometer and motion sensor (e.g., accelerometer, gyroscope, etc.) information. The mobile device may transmit the tagged visual data to a crowdsourcing server.

  • Publication number: 20160187457
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for processing positioning data are provided. In an example, a method for processing positioning data associated with one or more access points includes choosing, for inclusion in the positioning data, one or both of: (1) ranging model parameters to enable a mobile device to compute first heatmap data for multiple points in a ranging region of a heatmap, or (2) second heatmap data for a plurality of points in a non-ranging region of the heatmap. The method can also include transmitting the positioning data, such as to a mobile device. The positioning data can also include both the ranging model parameters and the second heatmap data when the ranging region and the non-ranging region fully or partially overlap, in which case the second heatmap data provides correction data to enable the mobile device to modify the computed heatmap data in the area where the two regions overlap.

  • Publication number: 20160191775
Abstract: Techniques describe opportunistically capturing and tagging images with wireless information by a mobile device. The tagged image may be transmitted to a remote server, such as a crowdsourcing server, where the location at which the image was captured may be determined using visual features from the image. An association between the location and the wireless measurements may be used in building/maintaining a heatmap. In one embodiment, techniques are described for setting camera parameters for opportunistically capturing images and may include receiving at least one signal associated with at least one signal emitting device, determining information associated with the at least one signal emitting device using the at least one signal, setting at least one camera parameter for a camera coupled to the mobile device based on the information associated with the at least one signal emitting device, and capturing one or more images using the at least one camera parameter.

  • Publication number: 20160174147
Abstract: Methods, systems, computer-readable media, and apparatuses for reducing a set of access points to be used for mobile device positioning are presented. In some embodiments, a subset of access points may be selected from a set of access points. A trial set of access points may be generated by removing the subset of access points from the set of access points. A coverage quality may be determined for the trial set of access points. In response to determining that the coverage quality of the trial set of access points exceeds a threshold coverage quality, the subset of access points may be removed from the set of access points.

  • Publication number: 20160150374
Abstract: Systems, apparatus and methods for estimating a location of a mobile device are presented. Before computing a location estimate, the mobile device groups a plurality of access points into two or more categories (for example, a first list of access points having a first characteristic and a second list of access points having a second characteristic). Round-trip time (RTT) measurements are computed for access points in the first list. A Short Interframe Space (SIFS) value may be determined for each access point in the first list or generally SIFT representing the first list as a whole. The RTT measurements are compensated with the appropriate SIFS value. The mobile device then computes its location or position fix estimate using the compensated RTT values while excluding less accurate RTT values from other access points. As a result, the location estimate eliminates adverse influent from some access points.

  • Patent number: 9341483
Abstract: Systems, apparatus and methods disclosed herein facilitate mobile station (MS) location determination using MS captured images of known points of interest (POIs). In some embodiments, each POI is associated with a corresponding visibility map comprising a set of grid points, and a subset of the POIs may be identified from the MS captured images by matching the MS captured images of each POI in the subset with corresponding stored images. A cumulative grid point weight for a plurality of grid points in the visibility maps associated with the POIs in the subset may be computed. The cumulative grid point weight for each grid point represents the probability that the MS is located at that grid point. The location of the MS may be estimated based on the cumulative grid point weights of the plurality of grid points.
