  • Publication number: 20220128760
Abstract: The invention relates to the fabrication of optical switches in transparent substrates. The method includes exposing part of the substrate to a stream of femtosecond laser pulses to form an exposed volume which can later be etched to form a channel used for microfluidic control of the switch. This process is referred to as femtosecond laser induced chemical etching (FLICE). The waveguides of the optical switch are also written in the substrate by using femtosecond laser inscription (FLI), which can be performed in the same operation as the exposure step in the FLICE formation of the channel, thus ensuring alignment between the waveguides and the channel.

  • Patent number: 11290188
Abstract: An optical communications system includes a laser transmitter to generate an optical signal and a first optical fiber network coupled to transmit the optical signal from the laser transmitter system. A first latchable, asymmetric coupler is disposed along the first optical fiber network to receive the optical signal, and has a first tap output that receives a selected and alterable first fraction of the optical signal. A second latchable, asymmetric coupler is disposed along the first optical fiber network to receive the optical signal from the first latchable asymmetric coupler and has a second tap output that receives a selected and alterable second fraction of the optical signal incident at the second latchable. • Publication number: 20210173766
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to systems, methods, and user interfaces that automate the workflow testing process. Users can configure, automate and execute repeating workflow tests associated with software updates or upgrades. In doing so, issues with the updates or upgrades are proactively prevented. To do so, a selection of one or more business processes is initially received. The one or more business processes are combined into a client workflow. Test data and assertion types are received for each business process of the one or more business processes. A script and metadata containing the client workflow name and the one or more business process names utilized to create the client workflow is stored and the client workflow can be executed in a target environment. Any errors in the client workflow are detected and a notification is provided to a user for follow-up and resolution.

  • Publication number: 20210088728
Abstract: A tapered core structure is written on the end of an optical fiber using a 3D-printing process. The tapered core may expand the mode diameter for improved coupling between fibers or may reduce the mode diameter to enhance coupling to a waveguide smaller than the fiber core. The written core is surrounded by a cladding. The diameter of the core is varied while it is being written, allowing a wide range of taper profiles to be implemented. The 3D-printing process is readily adapted to permit multiple fibers to have tapered cores written on their ends during the same process cycle.

  • Publication number: 20200227801
Abstract: In one aspect, a thermal management system of rechargeable battery system includes a plurality of rechargeable electrochemical batteries installed in a rechargeable battery pack. The system includes a cooling pump that circulates a liquid coolant mixture through the pipe. The pipe runs through the battery pack and a thermo-electric heater/cooler system, and wherein cooling pump controls a flow speed of the cooling liquid through a pipe that absorbs heat from the plurality of rechargeable electrochemical batteries in each circulation through the pipe. A reservoir holds the liquid coolant mixture and maintains a specified pressure through the pipe. A thermal management system block includes a computing system, computer memory, a computer networking system, and a Pulse-width modulation (PWM) Controller. The PWM Controller is connected with the cooling pump and controls the cooling pump pumping speed to meet the acceptable temperature range in the rechargeable battery pack.

  • Patent number: 10254881
Abstract: An apparatus including an electronic device is configured with an ultrasonic touch sensor-based virtual button. The ultrasonic sensor is disposed behind a first portion of an exterior surface of the electronic device. A processor associated with one or both of the electronic device and the ultrasonic sensor is configured to: (i) process a signal received from the ultrasonic sensor so as to acquire image data of a surface or substance in contact with the first portion of the exterior surface; and (ii) make a first determination whether or not the acquired image data is related to an intended control touch on the first portion by determining whether or not the image data is characteristic of a fingerprint or a patterned stylus.

  • Publication number: 20170200054
Abstract: A method of determining whether a biometric object is part of a live individual is described. In one such method, image information is acquired from the biometric object by using a sensor, such as an ultrasonic sensor. The image information may be analyzed in at least two analysis stages. One of the analysis stages may be a temporal analysis stage that analyzes changes in the image information obtained during a time period throughout which the biometric object was continuously available to the sensor. For example, a dead/alive stage may analyze differences between image information taken at two different times in order to identify changes from one time to the next. Other stages may focus on aspects of a particular image information set, rather than seeking to assess changes over time. These other stages seek to determine whether an image information set exhibits characteristics similar to those of a live biometric object.

Abstract: A system and/or methodology for upgrading mobile devices via text messages. The user of a source mobile device can send a text message, having a special identifier, to a set of destination mobile devices to be updated. The text message can include a file transfer protocol-server internet protocol address and a file name with a file path. The destination device obtains the text message, processes it, and sends a request to the file transfer protocol-server internet protocol address for the specified update file. The ftp server responds to the request with a data packet containing the update file, which the destination device installs.
