  • Patent number: 7223978
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for measuring the quantity of chemical species contained in a high-temperature gas, and especially the quantity of CO and/or CO2 contained in a gas emitted from a metal treating furnace, especially a light-arc furnace (EAF) or a converter (BOF). According to the invention, part of the gas to be analysed is extracted, the temperature of said gas is reduced to at least 300° C., preferably to a temperature that is lower than or equal to 200° C., in such a way as to obtain a at a temperature between 300° C., preferably 200° C., and the ambient temperature, and at least the quantity of CO and/or CO2 said gas is then measured by means of the coherent light signal which is emitted by a laser diode through the gas and is retrieved on emergence from the gas.

  • Patent number: 6955730
Abstract: The method and apparatus for enhancing the metallurgical quality of products treated in a furnace with several zones, wherein the temperature and the atmospheric conditions can be controlled. The applies to any type of product treated in a furnace, such as billets, blooms, slugs or slabs. Alternatively, this may be used by iron and steel manufacturers in the production line for sheets, plates, tubes, etc.

  • Patent number: 6788998
Abstract: The invention relates to a procedure for determining the risk of flammability of a mixture of two reactive gases A, B, in an inert or base gas, which includes: a step of determining, in the flammability diagram for the A/B/base gas mixture, the change in the composition of the mixture in order to determine whether or not the composition has passed through the flammability region of the flammability diagram, when A is firstly injected into the inert or base gas to form a first mixture and then B is injected into the first mixture in order to form the final mixture; a step of comparing the mixing time, should the region have been passed through, with the chemical induction time for the mixture.
