Patent number: 9934306Abstract: Technologies are described herein for identifying query intent from a raw query. A method for identifying intent may include repeatedly separating and merging terms of a natural language expression based on a set of rule-based transpositions of natural language terms into one or more defined terms based on predetermined naming conventions for at least one software function. Thereafter, a cluster of previous search terms related to the defined terms may be identified, and the natural language expression may be associated with the identified cluster to create intent-based cluster information.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 2014Date of Patent: April 3, 2018Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Meyyammai Subramanian, Sayed Hassan, Anneliese Creighton Wirth, Michelle Follosco Valeriano

Patent number: 8990066Abstract: Some implementations provide techniques and arrangements to perform automated translation from a source language to a target language. For example, an out-of-vocabulary word may be identified and a morphological analysis may be performed to determine whether the out-of-vocabulary word reduces to at least one stem. If the out-of-vocabulary word reduces to a stem, the stem may be translated. The translated stem may be inflected if the out-of-vocabulary word is inflected. If the out-of-vocabulary word has any affixes, the affixes may be translated. In some cases, the translated affixes may be reordered before being combined with the inflected and translated stem. If the out-of-vocabulary word is misspelled, the spelling of the out-of-vocabulary word may be corrected before performing the morphological analysis. If the out-of-vocabulary word is a colloquial form of a formal word, the out-of-vocabulary word may be replaced with the formal word before performing the morphological analysis.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2012Date of Patent: March 24, 2015Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Achraf Chalabi, Ahmed Said Morsy, Hany Awadalla, Mohamed El-Sharqwi, Sayed Hassan

Patent number: 7961881Abstract: Apparatus and methods for including a code having at least one code frequency component in an audio signal are provided. The abilities of various frequency components in the audio signal to mask the code frequency component to human hearing are evaluated and based on these evaluations an amplitude is assigned to the code frequency component. Methods and apparatus for detecting a code in an encoded audio signal are also provided. A code frequency component in the encoded audio signal is detected based on an expected code amplitude or on a noise amplitude within a range of audio frequencies including the frequency of the code component.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2005Date of Patent: June 14, 2011Assignee: Arbitron Inc.Inventors: James M. Jensen, Wendell D. Lynch, Michael M. Perelshteyn, Robert B. Graybill, Sayed Hassan, Wayne Sabin
