  • Patent number: 7131007
Abstract: A system and method of retrieving a watermark in a watermarked signal are disclosed. The watermarked signal comprises odd and even overlapped blocks where the watermark is contained in the even blocks. The method comprises, for each k-th even block, subtracting the two adjacent odd blocks from the k-th even block of the watermarked signal to retrieve {overscore (s)}*k(n), transforming {overscore (s)}*k(n) into the frequency domain to generate {overscore (S)}k(f), calculating a phase of {overscore (S)}k(f) as {overscore (?)}(f) and a phase of Sk(f) as ?(f), calculating the difference ?(f) between {overscore (?)}(f) and ?(f), unwrapping ?(f) to obtain the phase modulation {tilde over (?)}k(f), and using a Viterbi search to retrieve the watermark embedded in {tilde over (?)}k(f).

  • Patent number: 7076426
Abstract: An enhanced system is achieved by allowing bookmarks which can specify that the stream of bits that follow corresponds to phonemes and a plurality of prosody information, including duration information, that is specified for times within the duration of the phonemes. Illustratively, such a stream comprises a flag to enable a duration flag, a flag to enable a pitch contour flag, a flag to enable an energy contour flag, a specification of the number of phonemes that follow, and, for each phoneme, one or more sets of specific prosody information that relates to the phoneme, such as a set of pitch values and their durations.

  • Patent number: 7042933
Abstract: A system and method for transmitting data over a channel, in which the data are categorized in at least two different categories. For example, the data are categorized according to the effect on perceived degradation on the data when error mitigation is performed on the data. Corrupted data of the first category are replaced using a first replacement method, such as retransmission and forward error correction. The corrupted data of the second category are replaced using a second replacement method different from the first replacement method, e.g., error mitigation or interpolation.

  • Patent number: 6885749
Abstract: This invention provides methods and apparatus for protecting data transmitted using standard compression techniques such as Huffman coding. After input data is preprocessed (filtered, quantized, etc.), the data is encoded using a Huffman coder based on Huffman codes or code books which have been scrambled to change the order of the code books and/or codes from established standard Huffman code books and/or codes. When the transmitted information is received by a Huffman code receiver, the received data may be decoded using the scrambled Huffman code book/codes to obtain the data that was transmitted by the transmitter.

  • Publication number: 20040205485
Abstract: An apparatus for compressing media content is disclosed. The apparatus divides the media content into at least three predetermined portions, compresses each of the at least three portions using one of at least three different compression algorithms and makes the at least three compressed predetermined portions publicly available. Making the portions publicly available includes, for example, transmitting the portions over a computer network such as the Internet.

  • Publication number: 20040160962
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for storing re-synchronization, error correction and/or error detection data within an existing communication protocol, while still maintaining full compliance to a standard, such as the MPEG-2 AAC standard. By doing so, data information can still be passed from an encoder to a decoder via a channel using an existing and well known standard transport protocol. However, the existing well known transport protocol can now include the data necessary for synchronization of the decoder to the received raw data, along with error detection and error correction by the decoder.

  • Patent number: 6760443
Abstract: A method of compressing media content in which a first predetermined portion of a media content is compressed using a first data-based compression algorithm and inserted into a first portion of a data frame. A second predetermined portion of the media content is compressed using a second data-based compression algorithm and is inserted into a second portion of the data frame. The second predetermined portion of the media content is different from the first predetermined portion of the media content, and the second data-based compression algorithm is different from the first data-based compression algorithm. At least one of the first and second data-based compression algorithms is a private data-based compression algorithm. A plurality of data frames are generated and are made available for distribution, for example, by transmission over a computer network, such as the Internet.

  • Patent number: 6493457
Abstract: A method and apparatus are described for inserting a watermark in the compressed domain. The watermark inserted does not require a reference. An overall watermarking system incorporating the invention combines cleartext, bitstream, and integrated watermarking. In a perceptual coder, the data enters a filterbank, where it is processed into multiple separate coefficients. A rate/distortion control module uses noise threshold information from a perceptual coder, together with bit-count information from a noiseless coder, to compute scale factors. The coefficients are multiplied by the scale factors and quantized, then noiseless coded and then output for further processing/transmission. The invention supports three embodiments for inserting a mark into the bitstream imperceptibly. It is assumed that some set of scale factor bands have been selected, into which mark data will be inserted. In one embodiment, a set of multipliers {xi=2Ni: i&egr;M} is chosen.

  • Patent number: 5825976
Abstract: An independent transport layer is used as an error correction mechanism in a method employing perceptual audio coding. The transport layer is characterized by the addition of information, via a transport header, to each of a succession of blocks of encoded program material which is independent of the information within its respective block of encoded program material. The transport header comprises information on the structure of the block. Thus, the transport header is easily separated from the digital representation of the program material and is independent of the content of the digital representation thereby providing for changing of the content of the digital representation without changing the transport layer.
