Patent number: 7104201Abstract: A sterile apparatus for covering a surgical tray upon which surgical instruments may be placed. The tray can be covered with a thin flat tubular elongated primary cover which is closed at one end and open at the opposite end. The primary cover is positioned over the tray and any supporting stand and provides a first sterile layer of protection. The invention includes a reinforced secondary cover which is positioned over the primary cover and surgical tray with the outer edges extending under the edges of the tray and drawn firmly toward each other to secure the covers and position them with respect to the tray. This form fit gathers and secures extraneous material from the covers. The secondary cover can include reinforcing layers of additional materials both in the area of the tray as well as the side edges to prevent these areas from being cut or pierced whereby the sterility of the instruments and tray may be jeopardized.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 2004Date of Patent: September 12, 2006Assignee: Clear Solutions, Inc.Inventors: Scott A. Publication number: 20030233964Abstract: A device for covering a surgical tray of a Mayo stand, with a sterile layer on which surgical instruments may be placed. The cover is held on the tray by an elastic band, drawstring or other adjustable devices which partially or completely close the cover underneath the tray, and which substantially pulls up the skirt of the cover to furnish a form fitting covering of the tray. The material of the cover may be sterilized paper, woven, rubber, plastic or a combination of these materials. The elastic band or drawstring provides rapid and secure positioning of the cover on the surgical tray. A consistent and reproducible barrier can be provided on the cover to inhibit penetration and therefore violating the integrity of the sterile field. A non-slip coating can be provided between the cover and table to prevent movement of the cover with respect to the table during use.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 20, 2003Publication date: December 25, 2003Inventor: Scott Comeaux

Publication number: 20030056698Abstract: The invention is a device for covering a tray of a surgical table in a medical area with a sterile layer on which surgical instruments may be placed. The covering is held on the tray by an elastic band, drawstring or other adjustable means which partially or completely closes the covering underneath the tray, and which substantially pulls up the skirt of the covering to furnish a form fitting covering of the tray. The material of the covering may be sterilized paper, woven, rubber, plastic or a combination of these materials. The elastic band or drawstring provides rapid and secure positioning of the cover on the surgical table. The invention provides, either as the sole barrier or as a second barrier, a consistent and reproducible barrier to inhibit penetration and therefore violating the integrity of the sterile field which is quickly and conveniently placed and which gathers excess material to thus avoid interference with personnel or the patient.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 25, 2001Publication date: March 27, 2003Inventor: Scott Comeaux
