  • Patent number: 9220345
Abstract: The invention is directed to a device comprising a body that defines a first surface and a second surface and defines a first, second, third and fourth lateral sides. In one embodiment, the first surface defines a first aperture and a second aperture. In one embodiment, the thickness of the body along the first lateral side is greater than the thickness of the body along the third lateral side such that the first surface slopes downwards from the first lateral side towards the third lateral side. The device not only reduces the pressure on the tailbone or on the hemorrhoids for a person in a seated position, but also reduces the discomfort or pain associated with settling into a seated position or emerging from a seated position.

  • Publication number: 20150265793
Abstract: Presented herein are various methods for using head positioning pillows to optimize respiratory titration. More specifically, the method includes a first step of determining an optimal relative angle between the patient's mouth and throat at which the patient's airway is optimally opened. The method also includes a second step of adjusting a head positioning pillow relative to the patient's head and neck to modify and transform the configuration of the pillow to achieve a pillow position that achieves the optimal relative angle.

  • Publication number: 20150172731
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing alternate content in a network, such as in the instance where content is restricted. In one embodiment, a server within the network assigns a location identifier to a plurality of client devices and associates the identifier to a location value. The location value is used to register a certain set of the client devices to a given service area. The server in one variant creates one or more lists associating the client devices to location values, and location values to primary and alternate content. The information is published and accessible to other network components. The server receives a request for content from the client device and either references the list or communicates with another server to determine appropriate content to send. Based on the determination, the server transmits the appropriate content to the requesting device.

  • Patent number: 8997276
Abstract: The present invention provides a patient lift for transferring a person from a hospital bed to another patient support structure. The patient lift includes a mast, a boom, a stabilizer leg, and a coupler leg adapted to couple to the hospital bed. The boom is mounted to the top of the mast, and extends outwardly from a central vertical axis of said mast. In one aspect, the boom may rotate independently of the stabilizer leg about the central vertical axis while above the hospital bed and while within an angular distance of a side of the hospital bed. Once the boom moves past the angular distance, the boom and stabilizer leg may begin to rotate together about the central vertical axis. In another aspect, the boom is capable of being positioned in a stowed position above a footboard of the hospital bed.
