  • Patent number: 10390074
Abstract: A method, system, computer medium, and other embodiments for integrating unrelated web services with stand-alone media-based devices are provided. Users can access and control the media-based device conveniently with a web-browser through various portals on the Internet. In an embodiment directed to a single web session, users program the media-based device by clicking on one or more hyperlinks or hypertexts in the form of advertisements of upcoming broadcasts. The advertisements may be web-hosted or sponsored by web portals.
    Type: Grant

Inventors: Chris E. Matichuk, Scott A. Rosenberg
  • Patent number: 10380630
Abstract: A system and method for placing ads on a client-side video replay system. The described embodiments of the present invention allow a client to make a determination of ad placement priority separately from the function of serving ads to a requesting application. A described dynamic ad placement engine reorders ads when the context of the system is changed to yield a next ad to be placed. Thus, at a later time, when an application sends an ad request, the dynamic ad placement engine can quickly respond with the ad to be placed. The ads also are preferably reordered after an ad is placed. Placement of ads is controlled in the described embodiment by interpreted rules for each ad.

  • Publication number: 20160021418
Abstract: Heterogeneous video may be independently encoded in a processor-based system and transmitted for display on a display device. In the display device, the independent video streams may be de-packetized for display on the same display at different frame rates. Thus, each of the video sources may be displayed in a separate portion of the display at its native frame rate. For example, an electronic programming guide may be transmitted for display at one frame rate and displayed in a distinct region on the display screen while video corresponding to an ongoing television program may be displayed in another portion of the display screen at its native frame rate.

  • Patent number: 8078493
Abstract: A system and method for displaying ads on a client-side video replay system during a pause mode. The method may comprise determining that the video replay system should enter a pause mode, obtaining an ad, and displaying the ad on a display of the video replay system during the pause mode. Determining that the system should enter pause mode may include detecting that a user has pressed a pause button located on a remote control or a display screen. The system may comprise a display, a processor, memory, and software applications configured to (i) determine that the system should enter a pause mode, (ii) obtain an ad, and (iii) display the ad on the display.

  • Patent number: 7106347
Abstract: In a passive pixel data handling system, pixel data may be transferred to a transfer function, at a given address range. The transfer function may perform a transformation and readdress the pixel data. For example, the data may be received through a media port target which transfers the pixel data to a transfer function located at an address range in virtual memory. Each transfer function may readdress the pixel data and forward it to a media port write back engine or to the memory address range of another transfer function.

  • Patent number: 6980183
Abstract: A display device, such as a projector system, may include a plurality of display panels formed from liquid crystal over semiconductor substrates which incorporate not only the pixel elements but memory as well. The presence of memory in the display allows a host system, such as a computer, to send only new picture information to the display and avoid the transmission of information that does not change. Thus, the display update bandwidth required of the host system may be reduced, allowing the host system to use resources typically required by the display update process for improved performance of other operations. In addition, the elimination of redundant information being transmitted to the display may allow more new information to be transmitted, enabling, for example, a higher resolution display.
