Publication number: 20080220624Abstract: Ali apparatus for supporting at least one electrical connector body, the apparatus includes a mechanical frame assembly mountable to a printed circuit board (PCB) and separable from the at least one connector body and the PCB. The frame assembly includes at least one base member for attachment to the PCB; and a plurality of rigid body members each spaced apart from one another and extending from the at least one base member or an adjacent rigid body member. The plurality of rigid body members receive a grouping of one or more connector bodies and a pair of adjacent rigid body members are configured to receive and support at least a portion of an entire length of respective opposing side surfaces defining each connector body. When a lateral force is applied to the connector body, the frame assembly acts as a support and transfers the lateral force to the PCB, thereby reducing a rotational moment at a base of each connector body connected to the PCB.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 8, 2007Publication date: September 11, 2008Applicant: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: William L. Patent number: 7267550Abstract: A printed circuit board capable of receiving an on-board battery from multiple orientations is disclosed. The movement of the on-board battery on the printed circuit board is directed via one or more guide tabs on the on-board battery that fit within one or more guide rails attached to the printed circuit board. A cam lever is attached to the on-board battery and enables a user to utilize mechanical advantage to install and/or remove the on-board battery on the printed circuit board. A pull tab attached to the on-board battery provides additional surface area to distribute the force when a user removes the on-board battery. The on-board battery can be installed and/or removed orthogonally and/or horizontally to the printed circuit board during the operation of the printed circuit board.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2006Date of Patent: September 11, 2007Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Eric A. Publication number: 20050111187Abstract: A multi function component mounting assembly is shown that, in the environment illustrated, supports a blower in an electronic device chassis in tandem with another component requiring frequent user access such as a media component. The assembly is supported on a sheet metal tray or frame with the blower mounted beneath the distal end of the tray along with its electrical connector which is supported with two degrees of limited motion to accommodate remote auto docking. The tray is secured in the opening by a unitary molded latch element that is permitted limited longitudinal movement with respect to the tray and includes biasing means which engage the tray to bias the assembly into a fully inserted position in the chassis. A drop down handle assists manual insertion and withdrawal of the assembly and disengagement of the latch securing the assembly and is moved to a stored position by insertion of the media component.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 26, 2003Publication date: May 26, 2005Applicant: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Jessica Berens, Steven Greseth, William Monson, Scott Shurson
