  • Patent number: 10728783
Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for improving inter-Radio Access Technology (RAT) measurements. A user equipment (UE) determines, while in a connected state Discontinuous Reception (CDRX) mode in a first cell of a first Radio Access Technology Network (RAT), that a second cell of a second RAT is to be measured. The UE schedules at least two operational periods related to transitioning between ON and OFF states of the CDRX mode to overlap, to increase a period available for measuring signals in the second cell.

  • Patent number: 10237801
Abstract: Cell reselection for transitioning a user device from a macro cell to a small cell may be performed by comparing a first reselection candidate small cell and a second reselection candidate small cell based on reselection criteria, and selecting a final reselection candidate based on the comparison.

  • Publication number: 20170238221
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may determine that a number of access stratum (AS) operations or communications have failed while attempting to communicate with a cell. Based on the AS failures, the UE may deprioritize the cell. For example, based on the deprioritization, the UE may bar certain cells from selection or reselection procedures. The UE may thus attempt to select or reselect a different cell even if the cell is ranked lower based on a selection criteria or reselection criteria. In some cases, UEs may store and share historical AS failure information that may also be used to determine when to deprioritize a cell. In some cases, a group of cells may be deprioritized (e.g., a group based on frequency, network, or tracking area).

  • Patent number: 9603069
Abstract: Mobility management is described for simultaneous, multiple radio access technology (RAT) user equipments (UEs). When the UE detects a mobility event that would trigger transfer of a communication service from a first RAT to a second RAT, the UE determines whether there is an existing connection to a base station of the second RAT and uses cached measurement information related to this base station to influence or weight how the transfer is performed/handled/managed.

  • Publication number: 20150271718
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided for managing a list of target frequencies for cell measurement. A set of available target frequencies for performing cell measurements from a serving cell can be received, and at least a subset of the set of available target frequencies can be prioritized based at least in part on a list of a plurality of target frequencies stored in a reselection database for the serving cell. Cell measurements can be performed based at least in part on at least the subset of the set of available target frequencies as prioritized. Additionally, the plurality of target frequencies in the reselection database may correspond to target frequencies to which successful reselection has occurred from the serving cell.

  • Publication number: 20150146694
Abstract: A method for determining candidate radio access technology (RAT) layers includes selecting one or more initial candidate RAT layer, for each configured RAT type of a UE, for a target RAT candidate list. The target can be for redirection or handover, for example. Each initial candidate RAT layer is selected regardless of network indicated RAT priorities and measurement object IDs. The method also includes selecting additional candidate RAT layers, for the list, based on the network indicated RAT priorities or the measurement object IDs. The method may be specified for when a UE is in a connected mode or an idle mode.

  • Publication number: 20150119037
Abstract: A method of wireless communication includes receiving a set of frequency layers for intra radio access technology (RAT) inter-frequency cell reselection and/or a set of frequency layers for inter RAT frequency cell reselection. The method also includes storing two or more of the frequency layers in an active search list and storing one or more remaining frequency layers in a dormant search list. The method further includes searching for each frequency layer in the active search list. The method still further includes dynamically updating a measurement list, the active search list, and the dormant search list.
