  • Patent number: 6962670
Abstract: The invention provides a method for measuring the thickness, or non-uniformity of thickness, of one or more layers of a film or article such as a preform. At least one layer contains a known concentration and a substantially uniform distribution of fluorophores. The fluorophores are added to the one or more layers in sufficient quantity to impart fluorescence capable of detection by a detector when exposed to electromagnetic radiation at absorbing wavelengths. The layers of the invention may be made from polymeric material, non-polymeric material, or combinations thereof.

    Assignee: Eastman Chemical Company
Inventors: Scott Arnold Hanson, Gregory Wayne Nelson, Michael Eugene Donelson
  • Patent number: 6649694
Abstract: There is disclosed a process for producing films from ethylene-&agr;-olefin interpolymers, which films have, in combination, the properties of improved surface haze, improved stiffness, and improved color. The process involves incorporating from about 0.1 to less than 1% by weight, of a functionalized ethylene homopolymer or functionalized ethylene interpolymer into an ethylene-&agr;-olefin interpolymer-containing composition, and forming a film from the composition.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 21, 2001
Date of Patent: November 18, 2003
    Assignee: Eastman Chemical Company

  • Patent number: 5914191
Abstract: A multi-layer electrostatic dissipative structure that is clear to translucent, washable and thermo-formable comprises at least one outer layer and a core layer. Preferably, two outer layers are utilized with the core layer sandwiched therebetween. The outer layers are a blend of amorphous or semi-crystalline copolyester and an electrostatic dissipative polymer in an amount sufficient to impart a surface resistivity of about 10.sup.5 to 10.sup.12 Ohms/sq. The core layer is a polymer having a haze value of less than five percent, preferably amorphous or semi-crystalline copolyester. The multi-layer structure may additionally have tie layers between the core layer and each of the outer layers.

  • Patent number: 5643991
Abstract: This invention relates to a blend comprising:(a) one or more substantially amorphous copolyester resins having a degree of crystallinity of less than 20 percent;(b) from about 5 to about 25 weight percent carbon black; and(c) from about 7 to about 30 weight percent of an impact modifier, wherein the total of the weight percentages of (a), (b), and (c) equal 100 percent. This invention is advantageous in that it provides the advantages of good electroconductivity, lack of brittleness, ability to thermoform into desired shapes, good impact strength, good sealing characteristics and acceptable environmental image.
