Publication number: 20200019927Abstract: A smart tracking device, such as a cellular M2M device, is attached to a plastic pallet for monitoring, recording and reporting the location, condition and manifest record of the pallet as it moves through a supply chain for shipment of products from a manufacturer to a consumer. The cellular M2M device has a subscriber identification module (SIM) to uniquely identify the pallet with which it is associated in a cellular network. The M2M device receives and transmits data about the products on the pallet, as the pallet moves through the supply chain. Actionable data allows supply chain managers to mitigate risks and losses in the supply chain. The supply chain data is also used to provide an electronic supply chain pedigree for a product shipped on the pallet. The product supply chain pedigree is made available to a consumer in a structured format, in order to influence the consumer's purchasing decisions.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 1, 2019Publication date: January 16, 2020Inventor: Scott Arthur William Muirhead

Patent number: 9352876Abstract: A pallet structure that resists damage sustained by prior art pallets in pooled pallet distribution includes a deck and a base separated by opposed block structures spaced to accommodate fork tines, pallet jacks and other pallet moving equipment. The block structures are inset from the boundary established by the outer dimensions of the pallet. Impact guards protect the block structures against impacts that could pierce the walls of the block structures allowing foreign materials to enter an interior space of the deck, base or block structure. The impact guards surround the block structures preventing impacts from all sides. The exterior surfaces of the impact guards, at the four pallet corners, form a continuous vertical wall which extends from the top of the deck to bottom of the base.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2014Date of Patent: May 31, 2016Assignee: NEXTREME, LLCInventor: Scott Arthur William Muirhead

Patent number: 8313594Abstract: A pallet is made from thermoformed polymeric sheets with an attached communications device. A further aspect of the present invention includes a radio frequency identification device attached to an apparatus. In still another aspect of the present invention, a communications device is incorporated into one or more sheets of a pallet or other container prior to forming. Methods of making and using a thermoformed pallet and container having a communications device are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 2010Date of Patent: November 20, 2012Assignee: Nextreme, LLCInventor: Scott Arthur William Muirhead

Patent number: 7874256Abstract: A halogen free fire resistant RF transparent polymer pallet has attenuated electrical resistance. A pallet body has a fire resistant layer and a substrate supporting the fire resistant layer. The fire resistant layer includes fire retardant materials, such as Al(OH)3, Mg(OH)2, intercalated graphite, zinc borate, and antimony oxide. The substrate is substantially free of the fire retardant materials to reduce the density and the electrical resistance of the pallet body. The fire resistant layer is substantially thinner than the substrate to lower RF distortion effects on RF transponder communications from additives and the conductive materials within an RF tracking system.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 2007Date of Patent: January 25, 2011Assignee: Nextreme, LLCInventor: Scott Arthur William Muirhead

Publication number: 20040168618Abstract: Articles constructed of a plurality of scuffed sheets have improved sheet-to-sheet bond strength and surfaces with high coefficients of friction. Articles constructed out of three scuffed sheets include exterior intumescent polymeric surfaces resisting the spread of combustion flames and insulating the interior surfaces from the high temperature of fire. Articles include electronic apparatus sending an emergency 911 call to a remote monitoring station. Articles are advantageously reinforced with optional rigidifying structures without article modification. Members are joined with snap together features providing an assembled article. Articles include handles for ergonomic manipulation by workers. Articles include elements amenably receiving unitization accessories. The article improvements are demonstrated in the form of industrial platforms, particularly material handling pallets.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 11, 2004Publication date: September 2, 2004Inventor: Scott Arthur William Muirhead

Patent number: 6588826Abstract: A hard cover is easily installed, removed, replaced, and inspected on the open bed of a pickup truck. The hard cover is a unitary thermoformed sheet material mounted on a rail frame assembly secured to side walls of the truck bed. The hard cover is hingedly connected by a bar fastened to the cover and extending into a slot of a bracket connected to the frame assembly. The bar is pivotal on the bracket to move the cover between open and closed positions over the bed of the pickup truck. The hinged connection of the bar to the bracket is released by manually disconnecting the bar from the cover, permitting the bar to be released from the bracket only after the bar is disconnected from the cover.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2002Date of Patent: July 8, 2003Inventor: Scott Arthur William Muirhead

Publication number: 20010038225Abstract: A hard cover assembly for the open bed of a pickup truck is provided comprising a rigid cover and a rail kit. A rigid cover, with a crowned central body portion, constructed out of thermoplastic having a relatively high coefficient of linear thermal movement is used for operation within an outdoor environment having a wide range of temperature variation. A rail kit comprising molded thermoplastic members configured to closely conform to and protect the truck bed rails is combined with the rigid cover to provide a complete hard cover assembly. The molded thermoplastic members of the rail kit include a channel receiving a depending perimeter lip of the rigid cover. The channel is developed to accommodate the linear thermal movement of the rigid cover and may be further adapted to limit the full linear thermal expansion of the rigid cover thereby causing the crowned central body portion to deflect upwards.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 20, 2001Publication date: November 8, 2001Inventor: Scott Arthur William Muirhead
