  • Patent number: 6817086
Abstract: A bilayer mask employed for lift off has a top strip which bridges between first and second bilayer portions and is completely undercut so that when one or more materials is sputter deposited the materials do not form fences abutting recessed edges of a bottom layer in undercuts below a top layer. Sacrificial protective layers are formed on a sensor and lead layers for protecting these components while overlapping portions of these materials on the top of the sensor formed during deposition can be removed by ion beam sputtering, after which the sacrificial protective layers can be removed by ion milling or reactive ion etching.

  • Publication number: 20040168618
Abstract: Articles constructed of a plurality of scuffed sheets have improved sheet-to-sheet bond strength and surfaces with high coefficients of friction. Articles constructed out of three scuffed sheets include exterior intumescent polymeric surfaces resisting the spread of combustion flames and insulating the interior surfaces from the high temperature of fire. Articles include electronic apparatus sending an emergency 911 call to a remote monitoring station. Articles are advantageously reinforced with optional rigidifying structures without article modification. Members are joined with snap together features providing an assembled article. Articles include handles for ergonomic manipulation by workers. Articles include elements amenably receiving unitization accessories. The article improvements are demonstrated in the form of industrial platforms, particularly material handling pallets.

  • Patent number: 6755449
Abstract: A locking system for toolboxes, industrial cabinets and the like includes a push button operator assembly connected by at least one movable link to at least one latch mechanism configured to latchingly engage an associated striker to releasably retain a first structure (such as a closure) on which the striker is mounted in a closed position relative to a second structure (such as a cabinet) on which the locking system is mounted. The push button operator assembly has a button that, when unlocked, can be depressed to move the associated link to unlatch the latch mechanism from the striker, and that, when locked, is inoperable when depressed to move the link.

  • Patent number: 6735032
Abstract: A multi-actuator disk storage device has at least two actuators respectively mounting plural product heads. Servo writing is performed using the product heads themselves. A first servo write operation is performed that includes operating a product head of the first actuator as a first clock head to generate first clock reference information for the product heads of the second actuator, which are operated as servo write heads to perform servo writing of disk areas associated with the second actuator using the first clock reference information. To servo write disk areas associated with the first actuator, a second servo write operation is performed. This operation includes operating a product head of the second actuator as a second clock head to generate second clock reference information for the product heads of the first actuator, which are operated as a servo write heads to perform servo writing using the second clock reference information.

  • Publication number: 20040085669
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a marker at the end of the adaptive self-servowrite process for adaptive formatting via the self-servowrite process. The mark is used later in the drive manufacturing process to identify the number of tracks written on the surface and thus determine the appropriate format to use in the drive.

  • Patent number: 6651467
Abstract: A slam-capable, T-handle operated rotary latch has a pan-shaped housing for nesting the T-handle and employs a single rotary jaw that is releasably retained in its latched. position by a rotary pawl. The latch has spaced first and second side plates that sandwich the rotary jaw, the rotary pawl and a torsion spring that biases the jaw toward an open position. The pawl defines a release trigger which, when tripped, permits the jaw to be pivoted by the torsion spring to an open position. A compact arrangement of stop formations and independently pivotal operating arms is provided adjacent a backwall of the housing to enable the T-handle to trip the release trigger during forward pivoting of the T-handle and the operating arms in opposition to the action of a return spring, and to limit reverse pivotal movement of the operating arms and the T-handle under the influence of the return spring.

  • Patent number: 6588826
Abstract: A hard cover is easily installed, removed, replaced, and inspected on the open bed of a pickup truck. The hard cover is a unitary thermoformed sheet material mounted on a rail frame assembly secured to side walls of the truck bed. The hard cover is hingedly connected by a bar fastened to the cover and extending into a slot of a bracket connected to the frame assembly. The bar is pivotal on the bracket to move the cover between open and closed positions over the bed of the pickup truck. The hinged connection of the bar to the bracket is released by manually disconnecting the bar from the cover, permitting the bar to be released from the bracket only after the bar is disconnected from the cover.

  • Patent number: 6543821
Abstract: A versatile slam capable latch mechanism that can be operated by one or more adjacent and/or remotely located operating devices to release a striker from latched engagement; that can be directly attached to an operating device such as a flush-mountable paddle handle assembly to provide a “stand alone” latch; that can be connected by one or more rod-like links to one or more remotely located operating devices such as push button assemblies; that can be connected by rod-like links to other similar latch mechanisms each arranged to be slammed into engagement with a different striker to provide a “plural point” latching system; and wherein one of the various types of operating devices that may be connected to a latch system that includes one or more of the latch mechanisms can be provided with a key operated lock to “lock” the system.

  • Patent number: 6513353
Abstract: A flush mountable operating assembly has paddle-type handle nested in a housing-defined recess for pivoting between non-operated and operated positions. An operating linkage for drivingly connecting the paddle handle to one or a plurality of adjacent or remotely located latch assemblies includes overlying first and second arm that are connected to the housing for pivotal movement about a common pivot axis. A lock cylinder is carried by the housing and is coupled to a connecting element for positioning the connecting element at selected locations along the lengths of aligned slots that are formed through the first and second arms. The position of the connecting element in the slots, and the configuration and orientation of the slots determine whether the arms are drivingly connected or disconnected. When connected, the arms pivot in the unison when the handle is moved to its operated position to cause the latch operation.

  • Patent number: 6490895
Abstract: A handle operating mechanism that may be lockable includes a housing that defines a forwardly facing recess for receiving a handle that is movable from a nested non-operated position to an extended operated position. A connection plate located behind the housing is pivotally supported by the housing for limited angular movement from a non-operated orientation to an operated orientation in response to movement of the handle from the non-operated position to the operated position. The connection plate is provided with a plurality of connection formations arrayed in a novel way about the pivot axis of the connection plate to ensure that pairs of lengthy, oppositely directed links coupled to the connection formations move concurrently and substantially equidistantly to operate various arrangements of remotely located latches including pairs of latches situated on opposite sides of the handle operating mechanism.
