  • Patent number: 5307727
Abstract: In a neutral to drive shift timing control mechanism, a flow control arrangement is utilized in an electro-hydraulic control system for controlling a clutch fill period of a neutral to drive shift sequence. The hydraulic control system provides a pressure pulse of predetermined time which opens a valve to permit fluid flow to bypass an accumulator feed orifice to pressurize the clutch apply cylinder and piston to a value substantially equal to the piston return spring force without providing excess flow to the accumulator. The clutch apply pressure is then permitted to increase at a more normal rate which is controlled by the accumulator. The engagement time is determined so that the pulse time can be adjusted if the neutral to drive shift is not within a predetermined time range.

  • Patent number: 5251509
Abstract: An improved adaptive pressure control which accounts for nonlinearity in the relationship between fluid pressure and shift time. To account for nonlinearity in the relationship between cumulative shift time error and corrective pressure, the control utilizes an empirically derived table of shift time vs. controlled pressure to develop a raw pressure error in lieu of a shift time error. The adaptive pressure correction, in turn, is developed in relation to the cumulative pressure error. This removes the effect of system nonlinearity from the adaptive control, allowing more accurate adaptive convergence than was heretofore achieved.

  • Patent number: 5163342
Abstract: An improved adaptive line pressure control which detects the occurrence of run-through and overrides the normal adaptive pressure control in response to a detected run-through condition so that the line pressure during subsequent shifting is increased instead of decreased. A run-through condition is detected by measuring and comparing first and second time indications corresponding, respectively, to the interval of ratio change during the shift (shift time), and the interval between the generation of a shift command and the actual initiation of ratio change (delay time).
