Abstract: A network convergence component switches an output to a viewing device from a first source to a preferred source during periods when an event such as a commercial is detected. In some embodiments, the network convergence component is under local control. In other embodiments, the network convergence component is under the control of a network operations center, which is linked to a plurality of network convergence components. The preferred source may also be connected to the network operations center so that the network operations center may push content to the preferred source.

Abstract: A system and method for transmitting data. The system includes a database that stores data. The data is sent to a server for processing. A relay is then used to route the data for transmission. A firewall provides security for the data, the server, and the relay. The data is then sent by the relay to a wireless carrier network. A handheld wireless device receives the data from the wireless carrier network. In the system, the relay is arranged behind the firewall.
