  • Patent number: 5265696
Abstract: A ladder climbing safety clamp is claimed that may be easily operated by a worker with one hand while overcoming many potential safety hazards of prior devices. The safety clamp includes a body with a U-shaped cable sleeve. A channel is included on one side of the body to permit the introduction of the safety line in the cable sleeve. However, if the cable is too large to operate properly with the safety clamp, it will not fit through the channel, thereby helping to prevent inadvertent usage of the safety clamp with a cable of a diameter for which it is not intended. A gravity stop is also provided to prevent the safety clamp from being inadvertently installed in an upside-down position, since the safety clamp would not operate correctly in that position.

  • Patent number: 5203829
Abstract: The safety harness includes a shoulder strap, a waist strap and a seat strap. The seat strap includes end portions that wrap around the upper portions of the right and left legs, respectively. The shoulder strap is effectively continuous, having one break where the first and second shoulder strap portions are buckled to each other. The shoulder strap buckle is also the location for adjusting the effective length of the shoulder strap to fit the person's torso. The waist strap includes a buckle location where the safety harness is fastened to the person wearing it, the waist strap buckle permitting easy donning of the safety harness.

  • Patent number: 5174410
Abstract: The shock absorber disclosed herein includes an elongate strip of a webbed material or fabric. Both ends of the fabric are cut a short distance along the longitudinal axis of the strip of material, and then one end of the strip is twisted a half turn, or 180.degree.. The two ends of the webbing are brought together, and the juxtaposed halves of the separate ends may then be folded back on themselves and sewn together to form a loop. One loop may now be fastened as by a safety hook to a worker's safety belt or harness, and the other end fastened as by a double locking snap hook to a rope or cable attached to a fixed structure such as a building or scaffolding. The excess length of webbing may be folded back onto itself until it fits compactly into a housing or casing. The housing or casing must be releasable so as not to interfere with the tearing action of the strip of webbing should the worker fall off the structure to which the shock absorber is attached.

  • Patent number: 4977647
Abstract: A double locking snap hook comprising a shank, a spring biased latch member and a spring biased locking means, the latch member and locking means being biased by two separate screens. One end of the shank defines a hook portion, and the latch member is biased toward a latched position for restraining straps, ropes, etc. within the hook portion. The locking means is biased toward a position which requires that the locking means be deactivated before the latch member may be unlatched or opened.
