  • Publication number: 20240086061
Abstract: A portable electronic device for instant messaging is disclosed. One aspect of the invention involves a graphical user interface (GUI) on a portable electronic device with a touch screen display. The GUI has a set of messages exchanged between a user of the device and another person. The set of messages are displayed in a chronological order. In response to detecting a scrolling gesture comprising a substantially vertical movement of a user contact with the touch screen display, the display of messages are scrolled in accordance with a direction of the scrolling gesture. The detecting of the scrolling gesture is substantially independent of a horizontal position of the user contact with the touch screen display.

  • Publication number: 20240078006
Abstract: A device with a touch-sensitive display may be unlocked via gestures performed on the touch-sensitive display. The device is unlocked if contact with the display corresponds to a predefined gesture for unlocking the device. The device displays one or more unlock images with respect to which the predefined gesture is to be performed in order to unlock the device. The performance of the predefined gesture with respect to the unlock image may include moving the unlock image to a predefined location and/or moving the unlock image along a predefined path. The device may also display visual cues of the predefined gesture on the touch screen to remind a user of the gesture.

  • Patent number: 6573838
Abstract: A remote-control vehicle lock-and-alarm system provides improved security against “code-grabber” devices used to detect and counterfeit the codes used by a vehicle lock-and-alarm system. Two sets of control codes are provided. One set of control codes that does not affect the security status of the lock-and-alarm system is transmitted over a maximum range, for the sake of convenience. The other set of control codes is used for critical security features which change the security status of the lock-and-alarm system and is transmitted over a much shorter range to prevent detection and counterfeiting of the control codes.

  • Patent number: 5898391
Abstract: A vehicle alarm system includes a receiver transmitter subsystem, a G.P.S. subsystem for locating a position and a control CPU. The CPU performs a log and locate function in which it logs a first position of the vehicle once during an armed state of an alarm system and then, in response to the passage of a certain time interval, locates the position again. If the position of the vehicle has changed during the alarm of the alarm system, the vehicle's position is transmitted via the receiver/transmitter subsystem to a security response center that can then receive tracking information and locate the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5855050
Abstract: A signal transmitter for transmitting control signals is fitted to a key element so that signals can be transmitted to an operating device with which the key is used. Illustrative is the fitting of an automobile ignition key to a fob housing in which the signal transmitter is carried. The head part of an ignition key is subjected to a punching operation to shear off a first portion of the head part leaving a remaining head part portion with wings disposed laterally at opposite sides of the key shank part. Holes are drilled in the remaining head part portion and the remaining head part portion is received in an anchorage in the housing with the key shank extending through a notch in the housing. The remaining head part is then secured to the housing with screws passing through the lateral wing openings and into anchorage posts formed in the housing.

  • Patent number: 5850174
Abstract: An upgrade method and apparatus for both remote and key-operated two-step vehicle security systems is disclosed. The upgrade blocks attempts to disarm the alarm circuit when the vehicle is armed and unlocked improperly. The upgrade can be added to existing systems regardless of the polarity of the signals used therein. Improved power-up and remote control features can also be added as a part of the upgrade.
