  • Publication number: 20050245752
Abstract: A process for forming an unsymmetric anthracene compound comprises a first step of forming a 9-perfluoroalkylsulfonate derivative of anthrone by reacting the anthrone with a perfluoroalkyl sulfonating agent, followed by a second step of contacting the reaction product with an aryl or heteroaryl boronic acid, ester or anhydride, and a palladium catalyst for a period of time sufficient to form an unsymmetric anthracene compound having at least one 9-position aromatic substituent.
    Type: Application
    Filed: April 29, 2004
    Publication date: November 3, 2005
Inventors: Scott Conley, Lelia Cosimbescu, William Vreeland
  • Publication number: 20050211958
Abstract: An electroluminescent device comprises a light emitting layer including an anthracene material bearing at least one aryl ring in the 2-position and having a hydrogen or an alkyl group in the 6-position and having up to 12 aromatic carbocyclic rings including at least one naphthalene group in the 9-position of the anthracene group and an aryl group in the 10-position, the anthracene material including among the rings only carbocyclic rings.
    Type: Application

  • Publication number: 20050208329
Abstract: An electroluminescent device comprises a cathode, an anode, and therebetween a layer containing a host material and a second material comprising a bis(aryloxy)azine borohalide complex. The invention also includes a display device and an area lighting device incorporating the electroluminescent device and a process for emitting light.

    Inventor: Scott Conley
  • Publication number: 20050170203
Abstract: Disclosed is an electroluminescent device comprising a light emitting layer comprising a boron complex wherein the boron is bonded to a nitrogen atom of a 6-membered heteroaromatic ring group and to a nitrogen atom of a 5-membered heteroaromatic ring group, provided that the 5- and 6-membered heteroaromatic ring groups are further connected by an imine group, and provided that the 5-membered heteroaromatic ring group contains at least one additional heteroatom that is divalent or trivalent, and a process or device employing the device.
    Type: Application
    Filed: January 30, 2004
    Publication date: August 4, 2005
Inventors: Margaret Helber, J. Vargas, Scott Conley
  • Publication number: 20050089715
Abstract: Disclosed is an OLED device comprising an anode and a cathode and located there-between a light emitting layer containing a light emitting dopant and a host comprising a monoanthracene derivative of formula (I): wherein R1-R8 are H; R9 is not the same as R10; R9 is a biphenyl group containing no fused rings with aliphatic carbon ring members; R10 is an ortho-substituted- or meta monosubstituted phenyl group; provided that R9 and R10 are free of amines and sulfur compounds.
