    Abstract: A valve for use in a chest drainage device is disclosed, the chest drainage device is adapted to receive liquid and air from a patient's chest cavity via an inlet and to permit air to escape through an outlet for air to leave the chest drain, the inlet and outlet define a flow path and the valve is disposed along the flow path. The valve has a valve element that separates an upstream chamber from a downstream chamber and has a first and second sealing surface that are opposed so that when the first and second sealing surfaces are in contact, air pressure below a predetermined value will be prevented from moving from the downstream location to the upstream location. The valve element allows air to move from the upstream chamber to the downstream chamber at a low pressure differential.

    Abstract: An apparatus for hanging a medical device is provided. The apparatus includes a shaft, a mounting portion coupled to an end portion of the shaft and configured for mounting the apparatus for movement with respect to the medical device, and a hook portion positioned at an opposite end portion of the shaft and configured for hanging the apparatus from a support. The shaft is configured to permit rotation of the hook portion with respect to the mounting portion, thereby facilitating orientation of the hook portion with respect to the support.

    Abstract: An apparatus is provided for indicating the presence of pressure within a collection chamber of a device such as a chest drainage device. The apparatus includes a bladder configured to be positioned within the collection chamber or within another chamber in fluid flow communication with the collection chamber. The bladder has a concavity formed therein and configured to contract or expand in response to pressure in the collection chamber. The apparatus also includes surfaces associated with the bladder that are configured to move with respect to one another upon contraction or expansion of the concavity of the bladder, thereby indicating pressure within the collection chamber.

    Abstract: A nebulizer for entraining liquid in a flow of carrier gas from a carrier gas source at a select pressure includes a nozzle defining a passage which is circular in cross section and includes a converging section, a throat and a uniformly diverging section, all of which are coaxial and serially connected. The nozzle has an inlet at the mouth of the converging section and an outlet defining a primary orifice at the mouth of the diverging section. The inlet is connectable in fluid communication with the pressurized carrier gas source. The nebulizer further includes a reservoir for the liquid to be entrained and a conduit for conveying a liquid in the reservoir between the reservoir and the primary orifice. The conduit further includes a jacket spaced from and enveloping the primary orifice defining a liquid chamber about the primary orifice. The jacket has a secondary orifice spaced from and coaxial with the primary orifice.
