  • Patent number: 7133579
Abstract: A magneto-optic modulator and method are provided. An optical waveguide having a magneto-optic active medium is magnetized by a biasing magnetic field. The magnetization of the magneto-optic active medium is modulated thereby causing a variation in the Faraday effect on optical signals passing through the magneto-optic medium. The result is a polarization modulated optical signal.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 20, 2003
Date of Patent: November 7, 2006
Assignee: The Governors of the University of Alberta
Inventors: Abdulhakem Y. Elezzabi, Scott E. Irvine
