Patent number: 11946460Abstract: A thermal-mechanical linear actuator can include a first stage comprising one of a positive coefficient of thermal expansion (“CTE”) material or a negative CTE material and a second stage comprising the other of the positive CTE material or the negative CTE material. The second stage can be at least partially inserted into the first stage. The actuator can further comprise a thermal isolator disposed between the first stage and the second stage to thermally isolate the first stage from the second stage. Heat inputs can be provided where the heat inputs can control the temperature of the first and second stages independently. A hyperbolic meta material can be wrapped or coated around the first stage.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 2022Date of Patent: April 2, 2024Assignee: Raytheon CompanyInventors: Scott R. Foes, Ray E. Patent number: 10039204Abstract: A drawer for receiving components may include a caddy tray and at least one caddy. The caddy tray may include a substantially planar caddy tray bottom defining a caddy tray depth and a caddy tray width. The at least one caddy may be mechanically coupled to the caddy tray via a hinge mechanically coupled to the caddy tray bottom such that the caddy pivots relative to the caddy tray about the hinge, the hinge having an axis generally parallel to the caddy tray depth, the at least one caddy having a plurality of bays, each bay having one or more structural components for receiving a modular information handling resource and configured such that the bay is accessed for insertion or removal of the modular information handling resource when the at least one caddy is pivoted from a closed position to an open position.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2015Date of Patent: July 31, 2018Assignee: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Lawrence A. Patent number: 9725185Abstract: A power generation system includes a ram air turbine that is connected to a generator. The power generation system may be located in a pod, for example a pod for mounting on an aircraft. The ram air turbine receives air that passes through an air path through the pod, going in through an air inlet, through the turbine to turn the turbine, and out through an air outlet. The system includes a deployable flow obstruction, such as one or more airbags, that are deployable to suddenly obstruct the flow through the air path. The obstruction may be used to cut off flow (or greatly reduce flow), when overspeed of the ram air turbine is detected. The obstruction deploys (for example, airbags deploy in an air inlet of the system) to prevent continuation of the overspeed operation of the turbine, which may damage parts of the system.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2013Date of Patent: August 8, 2017Assignee: Raytheon CompanyInventors: Richard M. Weber, Scott E. Johnson
