  • Patent number: 9976714
Abstract: The present disclosure describes light delivery and distribution components of a light duct that can be used as a luminaire, such as a bollard-style luminaire that can be useful for the illumination of pedestrian crosswalks, the light engine useful in the luminaire, and methods for making the light engine and the luminaire. The present disclosure further describes methods for crosswalk illumination using the bollard-style luminaires, and methods of communication between bollard luminaires. The bollard luminaire includes a design that generally confines light to illuminate the crosswalk and the pedestrian in the crosswalk, such that light that could produce glare for the pedestrian and/or a driver approaching the crosswalk is minimized.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 7, 2015
Date of Patent: May 22, 2018
    Assignee: 3M INNOVATIVE PROPERTIES COMPANY
Inventors: Karl J. L. Geisler, Glendon D. Kappel, David G. Freier, Mark G. Mathews, Nicholas G. Amell, Scott E. Simons

  • Publication number: 20160327241
Abstract: Luminaire assemblies are described. In particular, luminaire assemblies that include a dimensionally stable housing and a hollow waveguiding core having a length and capable of transporting light along the length removably nested within the housing are described. Luminaire systems including two or more luminaire assemblies are also described.

  • Publication number: 20160327700
Abstract: Reflective sheets are described. In particular, flat reflective sheets including reflectors and substrates are described. The reflective sheets may have at least one edge not parallel to any other edge. The reflective sheets may also include at least one tab. Other films may be attached or adhered to either the reflector or the substrate.

  • Publication number: 20160320554
Abstract: At least some aspects of the present disclosure feature a modular distribution system including a plurality of ducts connected in sequence and an attachment device configured to attach two adjacent ducts. At least one of the plurality of ducts includes a longitude axis, a plurality of coated panels, a plurality of rails disposed parallel to the longitude axis, each of the plurality of rails configured to receive the coated panels, and an end frame disposed generally perpendicular to the longitude axis and proximate one of the two ends of a coated panel.

  • Publication number: 20160245486
Abstract: The present disclosure describes advanced lighting elements, in particular solid-state lighting elements, and luminaires that include an array of lighting elements. The lighting elements, and luminaires including the lighting elements can exhibit benefits that include high optical efficiency and therefore high luminous efficacy; extraordinary directional control and therefore extraordinary glare control and efficacy of delivered lumens; and exceptional mixing of individual-device emission providing exceptional suppression of punch-through and color breakup. In many cases, the architecture can be amenable to low-cost manufacturing in a modular format.

  • Patent number: 9184321
Abstract: A concentrating solar mirror panel assembly having a reflective sheet with a reflective major surface and an opposing major surface and a corrugated stiffener having ridges and troughs each having an outer surface with land areas, wherein the land areas of at least a portion of the ridges are joined to at least a portion of the opposing major surface of the reflective sheet. The concentrating solar mirror panel assembly is non-planar and substantially rigid. The concentrating solar mirror panel assembly is assembled such that a desired non-planar shape is maintained: either using a locking sheet or having the corrugated stiffener attached so that its principal axes of corrugation are substantially perpendicular to the axis of curvature of the assembly. Methods of making the concentrating solar mirror panel assembly are also disclosed. Concentrated solar power systems and solar collection devices are also disclosed.
