  • Patent number: 8165851
Abstract: A method and system for determining fastener locations at the joints of chord and web members of a roof truss determines an allowable area within which fasteners can be placed at the joints. Fastener locations within the allowable areas are determined, and additional information is associated with each fastener location. The additional information may include a fastener installation parameter than can be compared to a parameter measured during installation of the fastener to determine if the fastener has been properly installed. The fastener locations within the allowable area may be arranged to form a non-linear zig-zag pattern.

  • Patent number: 7963013
Abstract: A truss assembly apparatus includes a plurality of movable fastener securing devices. A controller moves the fastener securing devices to position the fastener securing devices in a selected pattern to provide for assembly of a truss. The apparatus includes a powered conveyor arrangement that moves the trusses through the apparatus during the assembly process.

  • Patent number: 6360509
Abstract: A truss for supporting a roof of a building and the like includes a bottom chord member having a first end and a second end, and a top chord member fixedly attached to the bottom chord member and having arcuately curved upper surface. The upper surface is flanked by a pair of spaced leg members, which are corrugated to provide the upper surface with a generally smooth arcuate shape. In one aspect of the present invention this upper surface and depending leg members essentially comprise the top chord, while in another aspect of the invention, the upper surface and corrugated legs comprise an upper truss cap which sits over a conventional segmented chord. In addition, the same techniques can also be employed to provide a bottom chord with an arcuately curved lower surface.

  • Patent number: 6244010
Abstract: A cross-bracing kit for laterally spacing and bracing open web structural supports comprises at least two clips wherein each clip includes an attachment portion for attaching to the truss member and has a first finger and a second finger extending from the attachment portion in a cantilevered fashion. The fingers define a channel therebetween and each finger includes a nib at a free end of the finger. The nibs face each other and define an opening between the ends of the nib that is narrower than the channel defined by the fingers. The kit further includes at least one cross-brace which has a channel-like cross section that includes a first leg and a second leg connected at their respective bottoms. The cross-brace further includes at least two notches in a bottom of the brace wherein a distance corresponding to a desired spacing of adjacent supports separates the notches.
