  • Publication number: 20110304689
Abstract: A method for modifying images for display on a three dimensional display includes receiving a first image and a corresponding second image which together represent a three dimensional image when displayed on the display. Glasses suitable to be worn by a viewer of the display provide depth perception of the three dimensional image. The glasses selectively send a signal to the display indicating whether the viewer selectively observes either two dimensional or three dimensional content by the display. The glasses also selectively send a signal to the display indicating the depth strength and image brightness of the perceived images.

  • Publication number: 20110148900
Abstract: A method for displaying an input image on a display includes receiving the input image to be displayed on the display. The image is modified with a first process to determine a driving signal for a two-dimensional backlight array of independently selectable light emitting elements of the display. The first modified image is modified with a second noise reducing process to determine a driving signal for a two-dimensional liquid crystal layer defining pixels of the display. The two-dimensional backlight array has a different density of light emitting elements than the two-dimensional liquid crystal layer defining the pixels of the display.

  • Publication number: 20110074808
Abstract: A display device is provided that includes a plurality of pixels, where each pixel includes a single subpixel. In a first aspect, a single subpixel is able to sequentially generate a plurality of (e.g., at least three) primary colors. As a result of the single subpixel, the display is able to supply a gamut of colors including at least 3 primaries colors. For example, the sequential generation of the 3 primary colors may involve operating the subpixel in a time division multiplex (TDM) mode, and a primary combination color is supplied in response to the subpixel generating 2 primary colors in respective TDM subframes. When the pixel includes at least two neighboring subpixels, the pixel may additionally be operated in a spatial division multiple (SDM) mode or in the TDM mode.

  • Publication number: 20110074933
Abstract: A method for modifying images for display on a three dimensional display includes receiving a first image and a corresponding second image which together represent a three dimensional image when displayed on the three dimensional display. Based upon the first and second image, the method determines whether their content is expected to cause substantial discomfort to a viewer when displayed on the three dimensional display. At least one of the first and second images are modified based at least in part on a physical value related to the pixel pitch of the display, in such a manner to reduce the expected discomfort to the viewer.
