Patent number: 6938614Abstract: An air intake apparatus for supplying air to an internal combustion engine comprises a hollow enclosure, an air filter and an air compressor which when activated compresses air supplied to the engine. The enclosure houses the air filter and compressor. An engine air supply path through the enclosure passes from an air inlet to the enclosure to an air outlet from the enclosure via the air filter, said enclosure inlet and enclosure outlet defining respectively an upstream end of the air supply path and a downstream end of the air supply path. The enclosure housing is subdivided by a dividing plate which holds the air filter upstream of the air compressor. The dividing plate also has an air inlet feature to allow air to enter an inlet to the air compressor after the air has passed through the air filter.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2001Date of Patent: September 6, 2005Assignee: Visteon Global Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Mark Anderton Criddle, Kevin Paul Cutts, Olivier Henri Eugene Desmons, Guy Morgan, Scott John Moore, Guy David Morris, John Charles New, James Justin Tindall

Patent number: 6920867Abstract: An air intake apparatus for supplying air to an internal combustion engine comprises a hollow plastics material enclosure, an air filter and an air compressor which when activated compresses air supplied to the engine. The enclosure houses the air filter and compressor. An engine air supply path through the enclosure passes from an air inlet to the enclosure to an air outlet from the enclosure via the air filter. The enclosure inlet and enclosure outlet define respectively an upstream end of the air supply path and a downstream end of the air supply path, wherein the compressor is secured within the enclosure by resilient vibration-isolating mounts.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2001Date of Patent: July 26, 2005Assignee: Visteon Global Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Kevin Paul Cutts, Olivier Henri Eugene Desmons, Scott John Moore, John Charles New, James Justin Tindall

Patent number: 6892713Abstract: The present invention relates to an air intake apparatus for an internal combustion engine of an automobile. The apparatus has an enclosure with an air supply path running throughout. Within the enclosure is an electrically driven supercharger, an automotive battery arid possibly other electronics. The enclosure is divided by a partition with an air passage into a battery compartment and a supercharger compartment. The battery compartment is upstream of the supercharger compartment. Air enters the battery compartment through an inlet, travels through the air passage in the partition, enters the supercharger and leaves through an outlet in the supercharger compartment to feed the engine. When the supercharger is running it draws in additional cool air from outside the enclosure through the inlet.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2001Date of Patent: May 17, 2005Assignee: Visteon Global Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Mark Anderton Criddle, Kevin Paul Cutts, Olivier Henri Eugene Desmons, Scott John Moore, Guy David Morris, John Charles New, James Justin Tindall

Patent number: 6889672Abstract: An air intake apparatus for supplying air to an internal combustion engine, comprises a unitary hollow enclosure, a motor vehicle battery, an air filter and an air compressor which when activated compresses air supplied to the engine. The enclosure houses the battery, air filter and compressor. An engine air supply path through the enclosure passes from an air inlet to the enclosure to an air outlet from the enclosure via the air filter. The enclosure inlet and enclosure outlet define respectively an upstream end of the air supply path and a downstream end of the air supply path. The apparatus includes an automatic air bypass within the enclosure that directs air in the air supply path to the air compressor when this is activated, and which allows air to in the air supply path to bypass the air compressor when this is not activated.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2001Date of Patent: May 10, 2005Assignee: Visteon Global Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Mark Anderton Criddle, Kevin Paul Cutts, Olivier Henri Eugene Desmons, Guy Morgan, Scott John Moore, Guy David Morris, John Charles New, James Justin Tindall, Martin Nicholas Green

Patent number: 6814042Abstract: An air intake apparatus for supplying air to an internal combustion engine comprises a unitary hollow enclosure, a motor vehicle battery and an air compressor for compressing air supplied to the engine. The enclosure is partly divided by a partition wall into a battery compartment and a compressor compartment, access to which is provided by a pair of covers. The battery compartment houses the battery and the compressor compartment houses the air compressor. An engine air supply path leads through the enclosure from an air inlet an air outlet, the enclosure inlet and enclosure outlet defining respectively an upstream end of the air supply path and a downstream end of the air supply path. The air supply path extends through the partition wall. The battery housing encloses an upstream part of the air supply path and the compressor housing encloses a downstream part of the air supply path.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 2003Date of Patent: November 9, 2004Assignee: Visteon Global Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Kevin Paul Cutts, Olivier Henri Eugene Desmons, Scott John Moore, John Charles New, James Justin Tindall
