Abstract: A system is provided including a control unit and an input unit. The control unit is configured to interface with a first vehicle in a vehicle consist, and to generate first control signals for controlling operations of at least one of the first vehicle or the vehicle consist based on a stored consist configuration data set including information regarding a distribution of vehicles. The control unit receives consist change information from the input unit. The consist change information includes positional information representative of a location of at least one change in the vehicle consist. The control unit is configured to use the consist change information to generate an updated stored consist configuration data set, and to generate additional, second control signals for controlling at least one of the first vehicle or the vehicle consist based on the updated stored consist configuration data set.

Abstract: A method for controlling operations of a power system having at least one internal combustion power unit includes: (a) identifying a plurality of discrete potential dynamic events; (b) for each potential dynamic event, computing an optimization profile which describes power settings for the power system to follow in order to optimize at least one operating parameter of the at least one power unit; (c) selecting one of the optimization profiles based on the potential dynamic event with the highest current probability; and (d) operating the system in accordance with the selected optimization profile.
