  • Patent number: 6695294
Abstract: A controlled equilibrium device comprising a housing; at least one spring, each at least one spring having a spring stiffness; and a load leveling device movable through the housing between a first maximum displacement position and a second maximum displacement position, the load leveling device comprising a deadband displacement zone defined between a first deadband displacement threshold and a second deadband displacement threshold, the displacement required to reach the first and second deadband displacement thresholds being less than the displacement distances required to reach the first and second maximum displacement positions, the at least one spring stiffness being substantially constant when the displacement of the load leveling device is within the deadband zone, the stiffness of the at least one spring being modified to a second stiffness when the load leveling device is equal to or beyond either the first deadband displacement threshold or the second deadband displacement threshold.

  • Publication number: 20020133904
Abstract: A door closer, for controlling the movement of a door as the door is opened and closed, the door closer comprising: an input member movable in response to movement of the door, the input member being movable in a first direction and in a second direction; return means for moving the input member in the second direction; and damping means for controlling the movement of the input member in the second direction, the damping means comprising: a rubbing member movable in the first and second directions, and a body for engagement by said rubbing member to produce a surface effect damping force in at least one of the first or second directions.

  • Patent number: 6290038
Abstract: Elastomer dampers (20) and (120) for damping movement between two relatively moveable members, such as shimmy motion between components in an aircraft landing gear assembly (10). Each damper includes a housing (24) having an internal cavity (36) with a cylindrical interior surface (34) and an opening (41), and a member assembly (28, 128) moveable relative to the housing (24) having an elongated shaft (30) received through the opening (41) with a piston head assembly (32) mounted thereon. The piston head assembly (32, 132) has a annular support element (46, 146) received over the shaft (30) with a sleeve-like elastomer member (48, 148) received over it. The elastomer member (48, 148) engages the interior surface (34) in an interference fit relationship thereby radially precompressing the elastomer element (48, 148) in the range of between about 5% and 15%.

  • Patent number: 5219037
Abstract: A mount assembly is provided for mounting a component, such as an engine, to a vehicle for active control of vibration. The assembly includes first and second mounting members and, an intermediate insert with first and second elastomeric systems connecting said first and second mounting members with the intermediate insert in between. An actuator in parallel with said first elastomeric system provides vertical force to said first elastomeric system to provide a relatively soft vertical rate. A controller operates the actuator in response to sensed vibration so that the vertical force tends to avoid or cancel it. A relatively high fore/aft and lateral dynamic rate of the first system protects the actuator. The second elastomeric system connects the second mounting member with the intermediate insert and exhibits a relatively high vertical rate and a relatively soft fore/aft and lateral rate. One or more sensors feeds data to a controller that analyzes the vibrations to determine the harmonics thereof.
