  • Publication number: 20110110750
Abstract: The present invention discloses a container comprising a circular end wall, a peripheral body wall, and an annular rolled end seam. A channel is created in the rolled end seam and is in communication with the interior of the container. A one-way valve forms a seal between the rolled end seam and an outer surface of the body wall. The one-way valve allows gases from the interior of the container to escape from the container during packaging.

  • Patent number: 6830420
Abstract: A jig is provided that includes a support portion configured to receive and vertically support a container thereon. The support portion has at least one retaining portion that is configured to non-rotationally lock with a retaining element of the container to substantially prevent relative rotation between the jig and container. Additionally, a method is provided for forming a container. The method includes forming a container body having a retaining element and providing a jig to support the container body thereon and having a retaining portion configured to non-rotationally lock with the retaining element. Additionally, the method includes positioning the container body relative to the jig so as to effect the non-rotational lock between the retaining element and retaining portion and positioning a lid on the container body. Furthermore, the method includes forming a seam between a periphery of the lid and the open end portion of the container body.

  • Publication number: 20040026422
Abstract: A membrane penetrating closure device for a container on which a sealing membrane (e.g., a metal foil) is installed. The membrane penetrating closure includes a cap that is designed to be engaged on the container. The cap is sealed by a user deformable portion that includes a pressure application surface. A penetrating structure with a cutting edge is connected to the user deformable portion such that it extends towards the membrane when the container and closure are engaged. Retaining structure is provided to retain a severed portion of the membrane within the penetrating structure. In one embodiment, the retaining structure comprises a plurality of capture projections that extend inwardly from the cutting edge. In another embodiment, the retaining structure is a spear projection that extends beyond the cutting edge. Other embodiments are described wherein the severed portion of the membrane remains connected to unsevered portions of the membrane.

  • Publication number: 20040007587
Abstract: A membrane-penetrating closure device for a container on which a sealing membrane (e.g., a metal foil) is installed. The device comprises a membrane-penetrating structure disposed within a tubular channel. One end of the tubular channel is secured to the container, while the other end is provided with a re-sealable cap. The membrane-penetrating structure is initially disposed proximate to the sealing membrane, and the closure device is arranged such that the membrane-penetrating structure will pierce the sealing membrane, thus opening the container, either as a result of opening the re-sealable cap or upon application of manual pressure to the piercing structure. The tubular channel may be provided with tamper-resistant or tamper-evident portions at one or both ends.
